spell damage scaling (ball lightning)

im currently level 50 and am really trying to understand where my damage is. i have 72% increased spell damage from nodes around my tree. i also have 3% increased spell damage per 100 mana from arcane intensity. i currently have 1200 mana so thats an extra 36% increase in spell damage. plus the 113% from my staff and the 100% from my gloves. giving me a grand total of 321% increased spell damage. i have 58% increase in elemental damage from my tree. 88% increased lightning damage. also with 2% increased lightning damage per 10 intelligence which i have 162 intellect. so an extra 32% making it 120% increased lightning damage. plus the 86% from my staff, and the 48% from my rings. that brings it up to 254% increased lightning damage. ball lightning is my main skill and i use arc in cast on shock until i get lightning conduit. but am i missing something with my damage or do the numbers seem right? the reason i ask is because i have the node all natural which gives me 30% increased elemental damage. i took it off and my dps on ball lightning was reduced by 9 dps.

i forgot to mention my damage numbers
lightning bolt from my staff is 1626
ball lightning is 266
orb of stoms is 643
lightning warp is 1786
arc inside of cast on shock is 2386
Those are good numbers for level 50.
i still have issues killing stuff. also why did my dps only increase by a measly 9 points when i obtained a passive for 30% increased elemental damage? i just feel like the numbers are off somehow. even when i had started this character, i had so many issues killing stuff and constantly had to ask my husband to help me. https://ibb.co/LJ4D7RD i feel weak compared to my him or even my other character. the math just doesnt add up at all or something is off with the scaling. my ranger's poison concoction is at 5200 tooltip only because of scattershot. if i were to remove that, it would go up to 8200. im just so confused on whats going on since idk how the scaling works.

Scale ball lightning with slower projectiles so it has more time to hit mobs as it passes by them and with AoE for the same reason. Thats why tool tip numbers for ball lightning will always be way low because it hits multiple times.
alright i will try that. thank you

giving me a grand total of 321% increased spell damage.

i have 58% increase in elemental damage from my tree.

254% increased lightning damage.

you have 633% increased damage all together, and then you took off 30%, so you went from haing 633% to having 603%.

its a very small reduction in damage.

all forms of increased and reduced are additive with each other, any time game uses those words they add to all the other increases and reductions you have and are then applied all together.

so when you took of 30% it wasnt 30% of your damage. say your unmodified dmaage was 100, it was being increased by 633%, giving 733 damage. you take off the 30% you go down from 733 damage to 703 damage. its not 30% of yur total damage because its additive with all that other stuff you have.

scattershot has the following text apparently

"
Supported Skills deal 20% less Damage
Supported Skills fire 2 additional Projectiles
Supported Skills have 20% less Attack and Cast Speed

this doesnt say increased/reduced. this says less.

more damage and less damage are not additive with anything, they are always calculated on their own.

so if you had 733 dps and then added this gem, the 20% less damage would take 20% off, giving you 586, then 20% less attack speed would bring it down to 469 damage.

so you can see that losing 30% reduced went from from 733 to 703

losing 20% less damage and 20% less speed went from 733 to 469

massive difference because one is additive and one is multiplicative.

I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

The support gem slower projectiles can feel a little sluggish as well but still can be useful but there are some passives in the tree for slower projectiles and you can annoit slower proj on your ammy as well. early on scaling some area of effect might be your best bet. Casting it while in orb of storms can help as well especially for clearing mobs as they all run right to you.
