I don't think Templar will fit well into this game
PoE2 was supposed to be slower and more tactical to allow for more variety/creativity outside of 1-skill spam...
I love Templar and hybrid classes/builds Templar is obviously the main hybrid Melee/Caster or Melee/Minion class. But I just don't see how Templar will be able to scale the attack/spell style... he has to deal with: - Accuracy - High mana costs for spells - High attribute costs - Too much passives wasted travelling the tree, allocated to +5str +5int - Too few nodes on the left side on the tree that give attack and cast speed at the same time - Crit nodes on the Templar side are bad with bad trade-offs or are too conditional - PoE 1 crit chance support gems are just better and now you can use only one of each support. PoE 2 ones seem bad by comparison - Crit is one of the only good ways of scaling Attack + Spells at the same time and it is harder to do so now(I'm repeating myself but whatever) - Nodes that encourage alternating between attack + cast are not good enough to justify the investment and there are too few(GGG stated that it would be better than 1-skill spam) - Seems that lot of spell power comes from staves, so no attack/cast playstyle His ascendancies will have to be really amazing stat wise to compensate for most of these, or else he'll be a noob trap or just too clunky with things like fanaticism. I really hope they put more thought into this eventually, it is a very fun class to use. Last edited by Gordyne#2944 on Jan 4, 2025, 1:25:15 AM Last bumped on Jan 4, 2025, 9:33:14 AM

Honestly, the templar will be a much better class for my playstyle / theme: A fallen Templar that uses the dead - basically to call down the cleansing flames, block, detonate the dead, and let my minions kill everything around me.

Considering the Invoker Monk seems to be one of the better builds right now, and its basically just a Dex Inquisitor, I think it'll fit right in. There's always room for the Druid/Templar side of the tree to get some further polish when the classes and skills are released, after all.
As for differentiating between cast speed/attack speed, most Templars focused on either elemental attacks, minions, or spells, didn't they? For attacks they'd be using meta gems which don't scale with support gems. Granted, there are some rather valid missing things like increased spell damage while using a melee weapon that could be an issue, since it seems spell affixes are hard locked from melee weapons now. |

You are assuming it will be the exact same as poe1...
They wont use staves, you will get to use a flail, which could fix all your problem, we dont know yet. The playstyle might be also totally different. |

" They did, but it was always more effective to focus on a single one of them. And the bonuses for alternating between attacks and spells were always too short to be worth the hassle, especially with PoE fast and deadly mobs Despite the inquisitor ascendancy basically giving the idea that you could scale both attack and spells to use both in combat. We need more conditional strong bonuses on the tree for this kind of playstyle. Something like: - *After using two slams or charged melee attacks, your next spell will gain 40% extra damage as lightning and will reduce it's cooldown by 50%* Example above would sinnergyze well with the "+40% damage +10s cooldown" support gem. In short, I think the Melee-Caster playstyle needs more spells and skill comboes that are short-mid range powerful spells with cooldowns or some sort of empowered triggered by melee attacks and melee attacks gaining some sort of speed buff after casting certain spells. And these buffs need to be poweful enough to compensate, but limit their range a bit so that we aren't just nuking the screen like a pure mage would. So... Melee-Caster traits, basically: - Mid/Short range spells and attacks - Greatly empowers Attacks by casting spells, opposite is also true - Combines attacks and spells for skill interactions - Casts empowered spells every ~3-4s seconds in battle OR gains immense cast speed + skill cost reduction for a short time conditionally, allowing for high spell burst damage -> switch to melee atacks -> Spell Burst again So... we need more stuff like these on the tree/spirit gems/interactions/supports The support gems that add cooldown are a good start but still weak. We need more stuff like these. |
