Game is borderline unplayable with Starlink
My only option for decent internet where I live is Starlink. Unfortunately, for whatever reason this connection has always been complete garbage when it comes to PoE, and it has carried over into PoE 2 as well, which is beyond disheartening.
I play a LOT of online games, and the GGG servers are the only ones that have this problem with my Starlink connection. Other games I will absolutely get ping spikes, but it always corrects itself within 5-10 seconds. When it comes to Path of Exile (and now PoE 2), it's like the connection is unable to correct itself once the problem starts. I have the graph toggled on to show my latency, and when one of these spikes occurs the latency just spikes into the stratosphere; it starts at my baseline 35ms and then rockets up to 1k, 2k, 5k, all the way up to around 12k where it finally disconnects me from the game. When I come back my map has been lost and it's a 50/50 whether my character gets rolled back and loses whatever loot I picked up before it happened. Again, no other online game I play has this issue. That includes other games in the same genre like Last Epoch and Diablo 4. I'll get ping spikes, but the client and server are able to maintain their connection the entire time and the latency goes back down to 35-40 after a few seconds. With PoE, I know that once I see the ping begin to spike, that's the end of my map - I will absolutely be disconnected within the next 10 seconds. Also worth noting I use a direct Ethernet connection. Honestly I'm not expecting much support on this, I've seen other posts on these forums from Starlink users going back several years with no fixes. Just needed to vent because it's immensely disappointing that it's happening in PoE 2 as well. Last bumped on Jan 1, 2025, 8:39:57 PM
