Legacy of the Vaal stuck

Hello. I'm In Cruel Act 3 and was doing the main quest to progress. I beat the boss and got the heavy gem thing then traveled to the Infested barrens to use the altar but nothing happens. The animation plays but thats it. Doesn't progress or anything.
