Ground effects vs charms

Does an anti-burning charm actually shield you from burning ground? I've found that most DoT:s in the game are very poorly communicated, so often I just end up standing on some ground effect (on death, anyone?) until I'm dead or almost dead.

So, what are our options on defending against these ground effects, other than simply not standing on them? Do charms work, or are they uniquely against the ailments inflicted from hits?

PoE 1 had such robust defensive options against ground effects, that you could always find something, but now I'm a little bit at a loss.

Feedback section in case any devs read this: I'm generally actually fine if there's no other defensive options, just have to get our of the area, but in that case it should definitely be telegraphed clearer. Set the entire UI on fire if you're standing on burning ground, etc.
