Problem with 1 death on maps.
I do not completely disagree with the one death mechanics. I think there is a fair argument to be had for there to be penalties for failing a map. That said,
as it currently stands, the reward for map completion does not balance out the penalty for a single death. The current system is really demoralizing and completely destroys the desire to re-run a map (or play more in general). Failing should not remove map modifiers like bosses, league mechanics, corruption, etc. Losing the waystone is still fine. If we want it to take it a step further, then my suggestion would be to destroy the path to the node and introduce a new item which would restore links on the map. Players will have to make a choice to either using the currency to have a go at it immediately or find another path to the map. If the drop rates are well tuned this would make it an interesting choice on the player. The maps should also be at-least 30% smaller but that is a separate issue. This isn't a 1:1 thing, if you're dying in 50% of your maps you need to look at what you're doing wrong.
It's more like 20 maps of rewards vs one map of loss, if not more. |

" As a poe1 vet and someone with 300 hours in PoE2, 1 death map feels completely dog shite and it should be removed. Sorry not sorry, you want 1 death on maps? go play hardcore, leave softcore to be softcore. |

" Have you considered going back to softcore PoE1 instead of asking to fundamental changes to core design of a different game meant to be played differently with a different mindset ? It seems like softcore PoE1 is more your jam. |

" PoE 2 softcore should be softcore. It's a mechanically superior game in most ways and many of us see no reason to go to POE 1 rather than try and make things better here. There are a lot of issues with visibility and on death effects (pls remove) right now and will likely always be there to some extent. Sometimes deaths are just completely unfair. Failing does not have to be completely devoid of penalties either. As it stands it's actively driving players away due to the severity of it. There needs to be some compromise made here. |

With unbalanced defs, unbalanced damage mechanics, on death and ground effects that visiually obstructed, unbalanced economy, unbalanced crafting system and unbalanced loot system, I believe that with only one mistake, losing your map, loot, exp, time, map affixes feels like hardcore. And I dont like hardcore. If i wanted to play hardcore, i would have selected hardcore. if you wanna target a larger audiance, you need options and alternatives for different play styles.
A calm and reasonable person.

" lol...your name Agreed. Anyways, I think the penalties are bit to harsh for pinnicle boss atm. In POE1, you get several chances during early maps to learn the fights. So when you get to the Ubers you know what you are doing. Some of the deaths are not avoidable because of just bad design. Take ritual, the map augary loves ritual but its utterly awful because the placement of the circles cuts into walls or puts you in spots where you can can roll caught, mobbed, and die. It seems to me just don't spawn ritual in those maps or QA a bit so the circles are not in spots where 75% of it is in a wall. That pretty bad for degens and stuff like tornado. Visibility is just bad. Another example is when I was in sanctum farming it, I died because the wall was blocking an on-death mechanic that had a -+5 second delay. So I waited for the fake one to go off, ran over, and died to a mystery explosion from a snake rare. 1 shotted. Tree branches obscure tight spots. I mean, I could go on about the color of the ground matching the on-death mechanics. There are a lot of thing which just need to be addressed here for QOL that go beyond portals. There are already penalities like xp loss ON TOP of losing the map and the node. So at what point does it become to punishing for casual players? What about finding citadels? 10 hours and I've found 1. Last edited by cvrpapc#7827 on Dec 28, 2024, 2:40:24 AM
