Poison, Chaos, Bleed..all the same?

The game is weird and so bad at being clear.

In the game i die from pools of blood and from green poison clouds and from purple chaos damage...everyone in game says its the same. its all chaos..
is that true? why are there even different things when its the same..

then if that is true i have a ring that says +12% to chaos damage but nothing shows on my poison skill for my bow..what gives?

How can this game be any more confusing.

Poison deals Chaos damage
Chaos spells deal chaos damage
Bleed deals physical damage unless its been changed in PoE2.

A ring with +12% increased chaos damage will increase existing chaos damage you do. As in your spell/weapon or skill is already doing Chaos damage and thus gets increased by 12% more than it was.

If the ring says instead "you deal 12% damage as EXTRA Chaos damage. Then it will add chaos damage to your weapon/spell hits.
@AetherSolace :
Be careful when using "more" in PoE 1.

It's not the same as increased (and I know u know this).

For players who don't:

Read Wiki damage - think increased and more are explained there.

You are right, the ring should change your damage tool tip.
But conditional damage is never be shown!
(e.g. if enemy is on low life, if you are moving, ...)

And pay attention if a mod is for spells or attacks or dots or whatever only.
