I completed my first ascendency trial, cannot choose ascendency since I ported out.

Please let my sorcerer choose an ascendency. I ported to town to empty my inventory and I was not able to return with the portal by the hooded guy. I have the quest step to choose my ascendancy too. I really do not want to have to repeat that process.
