Does anyone know how this crab killed me?

I touched an Essence and as soon as it popped I couldn't move or attack (Freeze immunity Charm on). My stun threshold is pretty low though but I've never been stunlocked so hard that I couldn't react at all. I basically just stood there for 3-seconds waiting to regain control and I never did. My character wasn't animating at all.
