Some thoughts on rituals
|
Out of all mechanics moved to PoE 2, this is probably my most liked one. And it's current state makes me sad. Here are some of my biggest issues with rituals:
1) Monster speed/AI. Ritual requires to kill monsters inside circle. So why the hell all monster types inside this circle run outside as soon as player is closer than 2 screens away from ritual? With a speed x2-3 higher than character has. As soon as you run to ritual, almost all monsters are outside already. 2) Weird "pushing" when character model collides with enemy model. Discussed here already. I simply don't believe it's intended mechanic. It feels like character has no weight when anything can move character across whole screen. How is it connected to rituals? It's partially relates to first issue. You notice that monsters try to run away, so you try to get inside ritual as fast as you can and kill monsters here. And then monsters simply push you back outside. You get pushed by one monster upwards, then by another backwards, across whole screen, back and forth. And no, it's not a knockback, that's simply monsters running. Even worse is that most skills are interrupted by this pushing (even without stuns), so sometimes you are unable to do anything, can't cast/attack, completely helpless. At least we have surfing in PoE 2 now (blood wave rituals were fun at least first few times). 3) And the biggest issue so far. Boss availability. Same fragments for all difficulies feels like a joke. And this issue is probably common across whole game now. How somebody should get their first points for a content, dropped from minimum difficulty boss, when a cost for single attempt is inflated by boss loot from maximum difficulty? Considering, how impactful are atlas trees for any mechanic (getting just a single notable in breach tree was like day and night change, for example). Split these difficulties, make fragments for first ones more common, problem solved. You can finally enjoy better mechanics with first few points, while leaving last ones behind some time/currency investment. Right now most players won't get even close to obtaining their first 1-2 points in ritual due to fragment cost. And even if they get lucky obtaining one from ritual itself, why would they use it if this single fragment can buy them whole build instead? Last bumped on Dec 21, 2024, 1:57:54 PM
