After 2 leagues, POE2 in its current state will have exactly the same player base as POE1
First of all, I'm not a POE1 veteran, I started last league and had 2 95+ character. And I have two 85+ character in this game, both made it to the T15+.
In my opinion, if you follow any of the meta builds, if you are currently one or two button clearing the maps, if you've engaged trade in anyway during the map progression, you ARE the POE1 target audience... So to the "Don't make POE2 like POE1" and "git gud or go back to POE1" crowd, what exactly are you talking about? POE2 is still "zoom zoom", you are just zooming slower. Due to the lack of movement skills, and maps being bigger, it takes a lot longer to clear a map, which a lot of veterans are okay with. But that doesn't change the fact you are still clearing the screen with that one skill, easily. I've personally enjoyed Monk the most since ice strike also kind of serves as a teleport, which makes clearing much more enjoyable. One thing I'll add is that death is now much more punishing. Giving one attempt for each boss/map makes the game much worse imo, and none of my build is glass canon. Like many have said, it's not about difficulty, it's about being tedious and wasting people's time. Most of the end game mechanics are more or less the same, even a bit worse. Strongboxes are slower, which makes them worse. Essence, deli, breach, expedition and ritual are exactly the same. The difference is now the uber bosses are tiered, which I like. As for sanctum and ultimatum... no one likes them (well... almost no one), not even in POE1. As for atlas/maps, it's less straight forward than POE1, but you are just juicing them using towers instead of scarabs, which is a much more annoying experience imo. The campaign is amazing, only for the first time. I've now cleared the first three acts four times now, here is my experience: 1st time - oh wow, this is great! This is the new POE! 2nd time - isn't this suppose to be harder? 3rd time - why is ACT3 so long 4th time - This is just POE1 campaign, just MUCH longer... Crafting bench is now replaced by runes. With no crafting bench, "crafting" anything by using orbs feels a lot more RNG. The rune system as a replacement feels much rigid since you can't really replace/remove them. Anyway, my point being... whoever that's enjoying POE2's end game (in its current state) is probably a POE1 player or would enjoy POE1 much more if they haven't tried it yet. GGG, if your goal is to attract a different/wider audience, the end game needs to feel like what we played during the campaign for the first time. One solution is to make the maps much smaller with bosses being way harder than whatever they are right now, so players can get to them with less tedium and proper challenge. And don't brick the map after one attempt, it defeats the point of trial and error. And if your goal is to maintain the POE1 audience, listen to the veterans and address their pain points. I'm not sure if you can do both, but something needs to change. Last bumped on Dec 21, 2024, 3:09:18 AM

" Biggest pain point right now is everyone on these forums telling people who don't like PoE2 to go back to PoE1. We literally can't. They keep delaying the new league because of complications with PoE2, PoE2 is negatively affecting players who want to go back to PoE1 because they don't like PoE2, so people suffer through PoE2 while they are waiting for the already massively delayed league to be even more massively delayed and you just end up disliking PoE2 even more. The worst part is the devs said that under no circumstances would this happen, yet it's currently happening. |

" Guess you have no idea what that word means. You literally can, you just don't want to because it isn't fun without new content. I mean it's not really that fun even with new content usually (since it's like 5% new stuff), but you guys still fall for it every time. |

Damn I read somewhere everyone would be gone after a week. Then after a month. Then torf in another post said 3 months
Now its after 2 leagues. Surely this goal post has to stop at some point? |

In the current state of the game these are the worst issues imho:
1. the trials 2. economy...dominated like in poe 1 from botter and non lifer 3. boring endgame: mappinng suxxs...No interesting loot in neither gear/curreny 4. for each twink I should play again the campagne=? No Thank you. (right now I have a 78, a 70...and my 26 = NO motivation to go any further) 5. like in poe 1 there is no need for groupplay, no competition (even d3 is doing better) My hope was GGG will establish something new with poe2. but right now its the same policy like in poe1, except we have to play a kind of ruthless mode-which was in poe 1 played by streamer and some 1% more people. Deeply disapointed. lets see if anything will change after this EA.. |

" oh bud its coming, you will not have to wait for as long as "2 leagues" or half a year the bleed of leaving players was just being offset by hype fooled influx of new players but that alone wouldnt last ... last weekend had huge spike in concurrents, this week the friday numbers are under the last weeks workdays and i kinda expect saturday and sunday to go slightly above but nothing close to the last week ... its quite simple really, the "make game harder" soulslike andies are basically finished with the game and starting to leave, the "new blood" is just about spent and the PoE1 players are on the brink of giving up due to broken economy and horrible endgame experience id say the EA has about 1-2 weeks of slower decline before the inevitable crash which all mimics the usual "league curve" we see in PoE1 or something you would see in a SINGLEPLAYER game release. problem is the game as presented now cant survive on "playable for a month" scheduling of league based live service game, not yet. |

" At what point did I say "everyone would be gone"? You missed the whole point if you think that's what I'm suggesting. If I were to predict the player count in this game, I would say 60-80% of the PoE2 base would move on to PoE1 when a PoE1 new league comes out. And they would come back again when PoE2 launches a new league... which is exactly my point, it's the same base, they would move around just to experience the new content. Some will stay just for the graphics and new classes, but let's be honest, PoE2 right now fills pretty much the same niche. Which is fine, PoE2 definitely grabbed a lot of ARPG players that otherwise would not have tried 1, but it is by no means genre breaking. If their goal is to grab the wider action game audience (which I think it is, based on the amount of changes they've made to the class design and campaign), the end game needs MUCH more work than whatever it is they have right now. To be honest, I think a lot of those players already left during or after the campaign when they realize this is not their thing, and the next and only chance to grab their attention again is likely the official release. |
