High level characters in low level areas nerfed?

Me and my friend were leveling warrior and merc together respectively. He started disliking the way he leveled the merc and regretted his ascendancy so he wanted to switch to ranger. I thought I would just carry him quickly through the first 2 acts to get him back online asap. For context: I was nuking act 1 cruel with one shot melee attacks that broke armor and heavy stunned and had supercharged slam with warcries clearing the whole screen and perfect strike to nuke bosses in 3-5 hits no problem. I inv him to my party and am now doing mud burrow and grelwood act 1 normal diff with my friend at level 5 and I can barely stun enemies. None of my abilities are one shotting. Is there some mechanic in place to prevent me from helping him clear stuff quickly so he can get back on track? I'm perplexed that act 1 bosses are actually hurting me more than act 1 cruel bosses. Same with mobs just not dying after several hits. A named rare takes me 5-9 perfect strikes. Act 1 cruel? 2.

The game down scales you, its at the bottom of the second tab in options, you can turn it off but he will barely get any XP, I know because me and my son use it to kill bosses with our high level characters for our low level one.

I thinks its a bad idea to not allow power leveling since the campaign is REQUIRED to play through everytime you make a new character.

its a compromise. you have access to a "full build" with end game skills which makes the journey much easier so its not a total nerf.

theres no "free meal". many game devs actually implement the same thing where if you power level a newbie the newbie barely gets xp.

its intentional but you could use it to delete bosses that you're having difficulty with.

else carry services would become a thing again.
