Movement speed might just make PoE2 an RPG (without A)
I think it's good that you don't want decisions to be mandatory in the game, but let's be honest;
Movement speed on boots are as mandatory an affix as a choice can get... I didn't manage to get hold of a pair of boots with movement speed, until I was in act3, and holy lord, that felt slow, and when I finally hit any movement speed from crafting, it felt like choir songs and sun rays parted a grey sky, even though it was only a meager 10% boost, but the difference was even still too noticeable. In maps I hit a pair of boots with triple resistances, high life roll, high mana roll and decent ES/Evasion. All stats outshined every affix on my current boots and I got Mind over Matter, so that's awesome, BUT.. because it didn't have movement speed, they got sent to stash tab instead of getting use. Even more apparent in PoE2 than PoE, without movement skills as we knew them, and ascendancy requiring so methodically rapid movement/evade, getting ambushed at every turn and fire turrets causing splash damage to you, if a minion gets hit, you'd be crazy to not prioritize any boots with movement speed. Movement speed as a prefix... Needs to go. Make them implicit or relocate them to somewhere else, be it quest reward or part of ascending reward (completing trial and not spend ascension points on), or something other entirely. Movement speed in its current form goes against GGG's greater design concept. Beside the movement speed in the form of an affix, PoE2 is not PoE. In PoE we all said we are RUNNING maps. I can't get myself to say that in PoE2. Exploring is nice and all, but I often catch my mind thinking I'm just searching a field for a needle. I'm just scurrying over an open field for content. I experince caves or the somewhat open regular maps are just huge and kinda empty, even though there's many mobs, and movement speed is making this feeling worse. I seriously go "Okay. That was those mobs... Where might content be.. maybe that directly." and then start WALKING 8-10seconds in that direction. Sometimes feeling more like an RPG, without the Action. Maps without a boss feels even worse, because you're mostly dealing with unrewarding trash mobs for a continuous long time scattered about far and wide. You CAN make me enjoy playing PoE2 without zooming through everything, BUT.. then these scattered white pakcs gotta be worth your time. The majority of the time is spent in the company of white mobs or no mobs is the current impression I'm left with. The last map I completed before writing here was a Savannah map and by the time I had completed the map and was ready to head back, I didn't feel like I had fought my way through a map. I felt like I had walked a marathon to fight off the fog of war, with mob obstacles, and I didn't remember anything about the mobs that was in the map. Because I was just focused on finally filling out the map (fog of war). That's it! I didn't run a map, I was walking and hiking through a map.. And I suspect movement speed to be the culprit for that impression. I'm looking forward to the future of PoE2. Cheers. Last bumped on Dec 16, 2024, 11:17:43 PM

Small tip: buy boots at the vendor that have movement speed. They are available in act 1 at level 2 or 3 I think

" That's just it.. I picked up every single pair of boots I could find, made sure to look for boots at every vendor I talked to anyway, I used every transmutation and augmentation orbs I got on white/single affix suffix magic boots, I emptied my measly gold reserves on gambling boots, and yet I still only managed to get a pair of 10% movement speed boots in act 3. Edit: If they were guarenteed, then I was bugged, because I never saw any and I was methodically looking at vendors to begin with, because my build needed spirit stat and I didn't know at launch what gear might have had it or what gear can't, so I searched every vendor item. " Unfortunately I’m pretty sure they’re not guaranteed, same with spirit gear. I’ve been searching for spirit gear for a while. Difference is that I’m pretty sure gear with +spirit only starts dropping in act 3 (exception: scepters) |

Yeah I have really only found two boots with % Speed.

Movement speed shouldn't be a gear stat or at the very least a non-unique one.
There's no point to it. Never has been. Movement can be normalized and improved with skill animations. Ranger is an example of this. doing jump backs and front flips over enemies. They already scuffed Dodge. I watched a friend play through to Act 3 using nothing but Basic attack and dodge. Without Stamina or body blocking Dodge is just way too easy.
