Does Doryani's Idol Focus or Shield Skin not apply to shields?

Just a minor thing really, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to add an mtx to my shield. I got the Thaumaturge pack and it says it have Doryani's Idol Focus or Shield Skin. So I would have thought it would work on my shield.

Same issue here, just upgraded it today and notice the shield skin couldn't apply. waiting for answers! ty
