Help me with tri-element Gemling Legionaire theory-crafting.

Gemling legionaire gets a couple of interesting ascension abilities along with some very specific nodes nearby, has me wondering what can be done.

Ascension abilities
1. Adaptive Capability - Attribute Requirements of Gems can be satisfied by your highest Attribute.
This means we can effectively use any gems we want to, in any combination, assuming we're willing to use the associated weapon(s).

2. Gem Studded - You can use two copies of the same Support Gem in different Skills.
Potentially useful in this use-case.

3. Integrated Efficiency - Grants 3 additional Skill Slots.
We'll likely need this, too.

4. Crystalline Potential +10% to Quality of all Skills.
Strong bonus to some gems, meh on others.


Noteworthy nodes
1. Two (three if you reach into ranger) of the only herald node clusters on the tree. Reduced reservation, increased damage, 600% crit in exchange for 40% damage, and increased damage while affected by a herald.

2. 27% Lightning penetration, 15% elemental penetration, and if you lean into the ranger area, another 33% lightning pen and 33% cold pen.

3. Lots of 'ailment magnitude', 'shock magnitude', 'ailment duration', 'shock/chill duration'.

3. Lots of 'projectile damage', 'elemental damage', and 'inflict ailment' nodes.


Thought process
I can use any weapon(s) that make sense. I can lean STR heavy for armor/life and use just enough of the other abilities to use the weapon I want to. If needed, I can swap an ascendency point to double the inherent bonuses from stats to get more life/mana.

In addition, I'll use the three elemental heralds along with either a cast on X or elemental invocation to fill the screen with pretty lights and dead mobs.

It isn't close to optimized, but I threw this tree together without a thought to defenses. I know it will need work, but I wanted to get all of the above on one tree.

I'm looking for suggestions on which skill/support gem links to use to most efficiently proc the ignites/shocks/freezes, and what to use in the trigger gem.

Any help is appreciated!

Which spells are you using? I'm progressing through the lightning pen part of the tree I linked, so I'm using lightning arrow and lightning rod with herald of thunder. Freezing salvo for additional DPS.

This has to change at some point, as I'm doing almost all lightning dmg.

I haven't. I've hit a bit of a wall, and moved to other characters for now.
