Uncut gem system

The gem level system is quite frustrating at the moment. The main issue is that you don't have a way to de-level gems or choose a lower gem level than the level of the uncut gem. That has the effect that if you want a low level skill on a high level character. Chances are that you can't (especially for spirit gems as they are quite rare). Unless you level a second character especially to get the lvl 1 spirit gem from act 1 quest which is around level 10 (or farm one, but again they are quite rare for spirit gems). If I want to optimize the gem level for my attributes, I can't either, cuz that involve leveling a second char to that level range and farm random monsters until I get one. Which can take quite a while.

It create a lot of scarcity towards low level gems. In trade league it's less of an issue because you can just buy one if they exist (at a high price due to scarcity), but the fact that they are so scarce and pricey doesn't make any sense. If anything, higher levels should be more expensive.

My suggestion to fix that would be to allow us to select the gem level from level 1 to [Uncut Gem level] so that would totally fix the issues with the current design without having to change the design choice around that.

I know you don't want to hear about solutions, but more about the issues themselves. But that solution sounds perfect to me, considering the current state.

I also see that the skill gem system is not as good as it could be.

In PoE1 you have been spammed with skill gems. I have been encouraged to try new skill gem builds if one of the skills sounded interesting.

Here in PoE2 there are too many restrictions on skill gem use:
1. min. characer level
2. attributes requirements
3. skill gem level requirement

--> those are much too much restrictions which limit character development possibilities.

I would propose and alternative way to simplify the system by removing the uncut skill gems levels. So when finding a uncut skill gem you can choose to upgrade an existing skill or learn a new one. So you do not have to find an uncut skill gem on the correct level.

I agree as well. Hard enough to find support gems, but leveling each skill on top of character level restrictions is just too much. Disorganized too.
