GGG what is your obscure "Border of acceptability" for build power?

I just spent 1.5-2 days leveling and investing lots of currency into a build playstyle that I enjoy only for it to be functionally removed from the game today.

So my question is - how do I justify investing time into the game when I don't know if the build I am playing falls outside some obscure "border of acceptable build power" that only GGG knows about?

How am I supposed to know what you guys find acceptable so I don't waste my time putting together the next build that is functionally removed from the game?
