Playing on PS5 with a PS4 Controller

Hello everyone, i might want to get a PS5 for my parents as gift but it only comes with one controller.

Are you able to play the game with a PS4 controller on the PS5? Apparently it only works with PS4 games and since it's a PS5 exlusive i doubt it but just wanted to make sure :) (solved)
