Damage conversion question

Hi everyone!

I'd like to ask a question about damage conversion.

I'm using Ice Strike as my main skill, which converts 80% of physical damage to cold damage.

The way I think it works is:

% increased physical damage modifier on a weapon gets applied before conversion of damage, meaning if I have 200 base phys damage and 25% increased phys damage modifier on the weapon, the calculation would be (200 * 1.25 = 250 phys damage) after that (250 * 0.8 = 200) and (250 * 0.2 = 50) So I would be left with 200 cold damage, and 50 phys damage. Is this correct?

Now in my example above, the phys damage originates from a modifier on the weapon itself. What if I get % increased physical damage on the passive tree, will that apply before the damage conversion, or after?

Modifiers on the weapon indeed apply to the base damage of the weapon, which happens before Conversion. After weapon base damage is calculated, Skill Conversion is applied, and then any other source of Conversion is applied. After Conversions are applied, relevant Damage modifiers are applied: your Cold damage does not benefit from Physical damage.

So basically, looking for increased physical damage WILL benefit my cold damage as my base damage increases, 80% of 300 is greater than 80% of 200.

But my cold damage will not benefit from increased physical from the passive tree. Am I reading your post correctly?

Ohh no, I may have read it wrong, you're saying % physical will not apply to my cold damage after conversion has happened, but it will before conversion, meaning my cold damage will indirectly be affected. I think I get it now. :)
