Why so much hatred ?
Hi guys,
I'm so disappointed that for the first time in 30 years of hack'n slash, I want to give my opinion to feel better. You're game is very very beautiful, the sphere of competence is excitting. And characters have enough singularity to be curious to try them. But... I'm sorry to tell that but I guess you make a mistake on the feeling of a Hack'n slash game. The game is ridiculy too hard. I understand the idea to give another challenge and pleasure for players. But the cursor is too far on this point. I played a lot on poe 1, I played Hack'n slash since 30 years (I'm 47 years old). What I like is to dive into a forest of monster, slash them, and loot them to become stronger and stronger again and again. In your game, we feel to be weaker and weaker again and again... This is the exact opposite of what I like as hack'n slash player. I'm dying again and again, not only on boss, but also against trash mob. I need to roll again and again to don't be one shoot (even as a warrior). I understand that a lot of people like that, but not me. It's not the right feeling for this game. This the feeling of a "dark soul" game. When I finish a session with your game, my shoulders hurt from so much stress. I hope you will drastically change that point, because, I'm in the middle of Acte 2 with 20 hours of play and I already don't want to play again. It's very very frustrating for me. Sorry for people like it, but it was important for me to raise this feeling. Last bumped on Dec 13, 2024, 4:50:50 AM

You are quite right, the game is missing the hack'n slash feeling and leveling up does not necessarily make you stronger (in some cases, it makes you feel weaker). Especially if you play as a warrior, it can be really frustrating and disheartening when you expect to be tranky with heavy blows to instead be slow, fragile and ineffective. It's a bit unfortunate that they released this game as poe 2 which creates certain expectations on what the gameplay will be like but it does make a valid marketing approach. Since you also came from poe 1, I bet you wanted to love the game and the fact you don't enjoy how difficult and slow it is or how it doesn't give you the excitement and rewarding feeling you are looking for, is quite a let down.
There are very specific builds and it takes a bit of luck with the drops right now to actually get close to that feeling. I think the game will eventually get much closer to what you are looking for but it will take a few years. One thing saw clearly in poe 1 was how much the scale of things has changed. The time it once took me to level from 1-15 is now the time it takes me to level from 1-40. Perhaps it's power creep, perhaps it's getting more familiar with the game, perhaps it's added mechanics and most likely it's all of the above. I expect something similar will happen here and the feeling of a slow grind will eventually be the first few hours, until you get to some synergy with your skills, passives and items. But like I mentioned, that will probably take some years. Last edited by talsiber#7036 on Dec 10, 2024, 6:15:44 AM

" I re rolled a character yesterday. Did not got under half health except from Bosses and ground effects until the last section of Act2. Died only to one Act 2 boss... no it is not hard.. Just do not play like POE1. Not trying to sound elitist, as I have less than 60H on POE1 and not even 80H in souls games.... but I felt the game is almost TOO easy. Really Almost 2 acts taking almost no damage from mobs? That is NOT hard. |

Looks like I fund my gaming twin!
More seriously my experience is nearly 100% as yours. I won't get into the details as they are the same you described but as a warrior. I also stopped at the end of the week end, in the middle of act II to save my physical and mental health. I feel depressed since then, not able to play the game I was waiting for so hardly. I put the game aside, waiting for better time. |

I really hate this game. It's exactly the opposite of fun. Feels worst than a waste of time. It's time spend in frustration and anger.
The combats are just kiting or dying from unstoppable attacks. No real way to power up if you are not lucky with the RNG. The idea to craft from scratch is just stupid. I cant store enough item to bulk craft, dont want to spend 10 min in town every time clicking 12039021 orbs for no real upgrade, so I just have like 200+ and nothing to do with them. The skill/gem system gives a false perception of choice, when most of the time there are only few working options. The penalty for dying is just boredom - like 10 min of slow, unpleasant grinding, just to get oneshot again from some basic mob or surrounded. You cant really fight back, you just die. Movement is broken. Stones, plants and water are more dangerous the most of the mobs - cant be killed or moved, you are just stuck. Animations are broken. Cant see shit on the screen from ice walls, fireballs, snowballs. Cant tell if its my projectile or not. Trails concept is broken. First one - if you are melle build, second one - if you're range. How tf are you supposed to play melle and dont take any dmg? There is no loot. DPS is too low, monsters to tanky. I have doing bosses. It's so tiring to perfectly dodge for 20 straight minutes just to get oneshoted in the end. Feels way too boring and slow for an ACTIONrpg. |

Thank you guys for giving your point of view, I feel less alone ^^
I tried to reroll with a wizard fire/chaos. It's more easy. I die less often. A friend of mine tried a necroman and he delete his character after 20+ die on acte 1 boss. Too frustrating. But, to be honest, I think that the dev team tested and retested his game and to have a very difficult game is a choice as game design. I'm pretty sure of that. So, for people like it, the game is perfect, I understand that. But on my perception, this game is no more a Hack'slash games (like diablo, titant quest, poe 1, last epoch, etc...) From my point of view, the feeling of play determines the type of game. The feeling of POE 2 is very different of what I consider as an hack'n slash game (as I explained in my first post). It's a new category, may be a "Dark'n Slash" game ^_^ But, even the difficulty, one thing that I don'y understand is the game was clearly created to try a lot of skill configuration. But, due to the difficulty, there finally only one or two type of configuration enough powerfull to go far in the game. That's still a problem for me. im going to say that this is not a hack and slash game. if u want that go play diablo3/4.
i came here to play a cerebral game where things require u to think/research to come up with a build to beat them etc. theres the fun of a hardcore style arpg and thats what this game stands out as. i came to EA as complete newb to poe (i have never played 1) i found the difficulty to be quite appropriate , progressed to end game without needing to copy any streamer builds, did have to do some trading on the AH though. there were campaign bosses that were challenging and required several tries but seemed reasonable. my friend who is a poe1 veteran was blasting thru end game with in a matter of hours |

game was only hard for the first 2 days, unless you made the horrible mistake of playing SSF league. You can go to poe2 trade site, spend 1 ex, and have a weapon that will make acts a complete joke. You can even get some resists for a couple more ex on a few peices of leveling gear and now you can facetank most bosses.
Haven't tried melee, but I'm pretty sure with just 3-4 ex in leveling gear it probably nearly just as easy. |
