PoE 1 and PoE 2 hard system lockups
Since getting back into PoE 1, and now PoE 2, the game periodically locks up my computer so bad I have to power cycle or hit the reset button. They are the ONLY 2 games/apps this happens on for me.
Looking in Windows 11 Event Viewer, it is always preceded with the error: " I use WSL on this machine so I know I havevirtualization. The basic specs for the computer are: AMD 5800X3d X570 Aorus Master 128GB DDR4 3600 Samsung 890 Pro 2TB SSD Nvidia FE 3090 w/ 566.36 drivers Is there a debugging flag or some other way to capture system state, and maybe see what is preceding the lockup? (I know it will be difficult to catch considering it's random) Last edited by risingfish#4559 on Dec 9, 2024, 6:56:38 PM Last bumped on Jan 11, 2025, 9:46:13 PM

I am also experiencing the same issue described by risingfish for both POE1 and POE2. The game freezes at loading screens and the computer becomes completely unresponsive.
Within the last hour, I experienced a hard crash when attempting to join a "dreadnought" hideout twice from the caravan in POE2. While in POE1 last month, the same issue occurred periodically during loading screens. Sometimes the game ran fine for awhile, but eventually the loading screen would freeze when transitioning to a new area. The strange thing is that I don't recall this issue when Settlers launched. I took a break from POE1 about a month after Settlers launched, and only noticed this issue when I came back to POE1 around November. Looking at different technical support forum threads, perhaps this issue is associated with the most recent Windows update, 24H2. From the Windows website link below, there is a known issue of, "Select games might stop responding on Windows 11, version 24H2 devices Issue might occur when starting, loading, or during active gameplay. In rare cases, you might receive a black screen." https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-24h2 |

Yep similar experience. Not sure what is causing it.

I have found a solution for myself that works for the most part, but is still annoying in the long run.
As soon as I launch PoE2, I start the program "BES" and limit the CPU for the Pathofexile2.exe to 93%, meaning -7%. This ensures that the game does not crash during that gaming session. If I close PoE2 and want to start it again later, I have to restart the computer first and then repeat the procedure above. This only works on the first launch of the game, for whatever reason. However, I have not yet found a fix that resolves the CPU stuttering with the new CPUs. The solution of keeping the CPU permanently running at >90% is not a viable solution for me. 9800X3D RTX 4080 64GB DDR5 @6400 Last edited by Heady91#5594 on Dec 12, 2024, 1:56:14 PM

I am also having the lockup issue. Running a 7800x3d. Started since the settlers league and is super annoying. Unable to find any fix whatsoever. It happens on both poe1 and 2.

Having the same issue with an i5-12450 and RTX 2050 in PoE 2

A month later it's still happening. And, in fact, it's getting worse. I have to reboot my PC 2 or 3 times before I able to actually get in and play the game.
For comparison, I also play Star Citizen which is well known to hammer both CPU and GPU, and it's working fine and has never locked up my system like this. This issue -only- happens in PoE. Is there a way to get log dumps or anything from PoE 2? Last edited by risingfish#4559 on Jan 11, 2025, 9:53:33 PM
