[PoE 2 Feedback] - No future for me

Greetings GGG,

I have come and gone over the years, as PoE1 simply feels bad to play as a melee only enjoyer. As i have given feedback regarding the utter lack of meaningful melee skills (everything is a spell packed onto a melee swing), the hope was that Poe2 would address this issue.

It did and did not at the same time.

The whole game feels like molasses/dodge roll/attack 1-2 times/dodge roll - forever.

I have died 2 times in act1 (random explosion instant death/armor evasion), did all bosses without any death so far, playing as a monk with qstaff and i am using the default attack with 25% atk speed...

The default attack hit 380+ dps end of act 1, any combination of support gems in any other staff skill was inferior. Now middle act2, it sits at 600+ with pure lightning, still bis dmg over any other skill.

The wind up time of skills destroys dmg compared to the default attack. It also makes melee feel terrible to execute and on top of that, you can be knocked out of it, too.

All my points are placed into skill speed, attack speed, dmg. This is literally the best i can do, as combo attacks also do not reach the dps of the default attack. And yet, i cannot push any skill beyond default attack's dps.

Bosses feel boring to fight, as everything boils down to default attack and stun, then i have to run towards the tumbling boss, as it steps BACK from me, and lose 1 sec of dps. Who designed this? Terrible choice.
Compare that to whenever a ranged player stuns or pins or disables, the boss would teleport to the player, be invulnerable for 1 sec and have the timer already running down...

---

On top of this un-fun combat experience so far, i have lost player choice for how to play the class. It feels like you put us on guard rails and every weapon is now a skill tree with little choices outside what you decided up front...

This and movement vectors for most of the normal intended aoe melee spells, resulting in 2-3 secs of pole jumping around enemies who can dmg you, while you can and will get stuck on any enemy in the way, stone on the ground and may even get knocked out of the animation + your last issue: dodge roll mechanic, leading to over and over repeating combat fatigue and boring game play.

The dodge-roll-force is another terrible design choice; i love souls games, but arpgs already had something working; PoE1 movement skills. And here we have the whole game play designed around rolling or you get -50-90% hp in one hit.

---

I appreciate...
- the effort you put into making a new game
- the art design and sound
- the best intentions

But sadly, you repel my interest with mentioned issues above to a point, where i play 1 map and log off with 0 interest to keep going, as it was that bad.

Things that i would change:
- drop rates up x2 minimum
- vaulting skills need to vault and not get stuck
- add universal melee skills for weapon groups and expand on those choices
- basic life leech and regen on the skill tree (or more nodes)
- dodge roll as a skill we can change to PoE1 movement variations
- removal of most heavy dmg one shots, instead tune the game differently
- keep certain one shots and heavy hits but increase indication for the whole screen
- add more weapons, if you keep skills linked to weapons
- more PoE1, less Dark Souls (and i LOVE DS! It just did not add good things here)

Those would be a start... But as of right now, you may have changed me from a part time arpg player to a non-arpg player. The worst outcome imo, i did want to enjoy your product.

I hope any of this helps and serves as feedback. While it is packed with frustration, this stems from issues that were presented through game play. I do respect what you did with PoE1 and TRIED to achieve in PoE2, i can acknowledge what i like and dislike and this is not a rage post.

Thank you for reading.

I have Ice Strike as main attack, it does so much more then basic attack.
Put down a frozen locust, drop a bell on it, and hit it with Ice Strike. Everything just explodes. I struggled a lot in Act I, but once I crafted a good staff (which takes a lot of luck) I finish most bosses in a minute.

There's no other game that does melee as good as PoE 2 for me.
You got me until you started comparing skills by pure DPS numbers. You're supposed to use more than one skill BECAUSE they do more than just DPS.

Things that you would change:

I also disagree, especially on loot end. People were asking similar thing for poe1 for ages and look where we are.
Do the same thing and we're on good track to drown in loot.

Leech should be limited as much as possible. Once more, do that and we're back to get back to random off-screen oneshots because otherwise players cannot be killed.

Dodge roll is not movement skill to go faster.

Use dodge roll to avoid these heavy skills...

If you can't notice the indication you're probably too far from the boss to see it. You can't make melee viable if people can just be few miles away from boss and still be able to be effective. Get close and watch him.

Its EA... Do we really have to point that one?

And most importantly - no more PoE1 in PoE2, please. You have PoE1 for that, PoE2 should be a different game. You said you don't like PoE1 and now you're asking more of it... do you really know what you actually want, or just want to complain?

As for me, PoE2 is what I wanted PoE1 to become. I have no problem with PoE1 existing and people enjoying it, but I REALLY don't understand why people want to turn 2 into 1... You already have the first one, it is here to stay (and I assume it will be more popular than the second one), why do you need another one? Let us enjoy some poe too (2).
Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.
Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.

This. I'm lvl 10, as soon as I got the skill combo it made the boss fights so much easier. Maybe I'm too low lvl to feel the struggle, but also I have 4 rares of which I exalted 1, found 2 and gambled 1.
Could not pass DPS check on the Act 1 locust altar boss until I gambled my qstaff
Sounds like OP is posting what is in POE1 he wants it in POE2. I disagree, difficulty is fine, I don't want to stand in 1 area and hold my left button and explode the whole map. POE1 does that and can cater to your power fantasy. POE2 is meant to be difficult and challenging.
I seriously do not get it, do not want to roll dodge or avoid attacks - stack lots of armour and evasion, get a shield - done, you have a high armour tank.

Want to be agile glass cannon?
There will be drawbacks.
as I wrote on Steam :

if Dark souls was a Hack N slash, it will be POE2
difficulty is not just hard, it's just not enjoyable

Why do you want POE2 to have a POE1 playstyle? There's a reason why POE1 will coexist with POE2 with frequent updates on both iteration. If you want to stand on a spot and one shot the entire map there's POE1 to do that, POE2 is not meant for everybody, but neither is POE1. Some enjoy slower type of gameplay, some enjoy being God.
