Monk - Crackling Quarterstaff
Update: I think I was mistaken on how skill damage is calculated. Even though the skills say "converts X% damage to Y", that's not the only damage in the skill. Skills also say "Z% base", and this should still work, but with lightning as the base damage.
Ok, interesting. Maybe i'll give it a try if I see a decent drop. --------- Near the end of Act 1 and start of Act 2, you get Crackling Quarterstaff drops, which have only elemental damage, zero physical damage. Are these useful in some way I don't understand yet? All of the damage skills I've been using convert physical damage to another elemental type, so it seems like I might as well unequip those skills if I were to use this. I would keep the CC skills. And then just use auto attack and tempest bell, and that would be my build? Guess I could try it... It would be simpler. But in a game that otherwise tries to get you to use different skills and different damage types, it seems weird to start seeing a lot of these at this point in the game. What am I missing? You can still use Crackling Quarterstaff with skills that convert damage. With caveat.
Lightning damage will be base weapon damage, meaning instead of it being converted to some element (aka Physical to Fire/Cold), it will remain as lightning. So you can have cold skill that deals 100% lightning damage. If you want. As conversion on skills is rarely 100%, this can be funky way to make skills to be 100% lightning/elemental damage.
