Local co-op issues

My son and I started a game last evening (Friday evening) and there was about a 1 second delay in all input. Really noticeable for moving our characters.

This morning (Saturday morning) I played my character solo for a bit. There was no input delay. I completed a few more quests on my character. A few hours later we hopped back into co-op. The input delay was back rearing it's ugly head again.

So, there is input delay on local co-op for both characters but not if only playing solo.

Now, we are stuck in quest progression. The evening playing together we made from the start to collecting the 3 spikes for the tree and then quit. This morning on my character I put the 3 spikes in the tree and made my way to the next elite/boss that starts with a "D". I'm sorry I can't remember the name off the top of my head.

Then when we jumped into co-op again the quest displayed to us was to spike the tree again. We could not interact with the 3 rune spots on the tree. There was no "A" or interact button showing up. I could not waypoint to any point forward of this (even though I have waypoints beyond solo).

We then tried to switch profiles, so my son's xbox profile started the game instead of mine. This led to the character creation screen? He didn't have his characters and I didn't have mine? I thought our characters were supposed to follow our xbox profiles?

So, we went back to starting the game under my xbox profile and I chose to be my sons character with the thought that I might have progress it as I'd be "player 1" to the game? Una showed up, we talked to her, the 3 rune spots on the tree show the "A"/Interact button, but pressing it doesn't do anything.

And thus we are now stuck and co-op these characters together. We were bummed enough to not even bother just playing his character (on my xbox profile) solo to see if that could even progress it.

I think the quest is called "Secrets In The Dark"?
