Getting killed by boss minions destroys loot - *what?*

I just lost a unique drop after killing a boss, because the minions after the boss swarm me and mauled me and I was trapped in a corner immediately (the first boss of A2).
First of all - I die to swarms of minions WAY more than I do to bosses, and that sucks because Sorc doesn't have a way out early levels it seems (probably will get better after we get that teleport) - So this is absolutely ridiculous. This isn't fun - you spend all that time killing a boss, getting loot, and then because there's 25 minions that corner you immediately you lose it all? Who decided that would be fun? That's AWFUL design. I killed the thing - let me have my loot. Or don't spawn a zillion adds after a boss. Or both. It's not fun.


Additionally: I'm on controller. You can't pick up loot when enemies are around. AFAIK, there's no way to force pick up.


Edit 2: You *can* force a pick-up. You set the "action" key to a button with NO skill. Then you can pick up loot when enemies are near ONLY in this instance. However you can ONLY bind it to one spot. So that means you either need to constantly use R2+X to pick something up or interact with *anything* or lose out on valuable skill space.
Maybe let us assign two different interact buttons? Then at least I could still interact with X and in a fight I could use a blank R2+X. still - this is just a band-aid for a much worse design problem (per above)
