why does chat not work?

" Yea I have had a few problems with chat, pressing dpad to open chat does not work at all and it took 4 attempts to actually get an answer to a question in chat to appear in chat. .........And from the darkness there came a voice.........."Has anyone got a torch? How have you been able to open the chat? Even remapping the button does not work for me
