Will PoE2 be slower?
I've discussed this before, on these forums, but to me my major gripe with PoE1 was it's gradual shift to extremely-fast movement, zipzap builds and basically "binary" defenses - you either don't care about your HP or you are dead. Push
the game far enough and there's no real in-between where you actually manage your HP pool (or mana, for that matter), things either don't damage you thanks to mitigation systems or 1 shot you and there's nothing you can do. It's kinda similar with your own damage too - Monsters literally get annihilated without having the time to do anything, so in the end having different types of monsters with different abilities, damage types etc didn't mean anything at all since you'd just delete everything that's not a big boss. I know some people enjoy this, but imo it's bad overall for the gameplay, turning everything into a simple zipzap piñata fest and practically nullifying the work of designing animations, monsters, skills etc. It also made most "DOT" types of builds feel very underpowered and clunky (curses, burning etc), when compared with pure "blast 2 screens of monsters in 1 shot" kinda builds. This didn't stop me from dumping ~2-3k hours into the game, but it IS the one thing i'd love to see changed in PoE2 if it could... So, without going further with this complaint, i was cautiously optimistic when i saw some of the trailers. The movement seems slower in general and that combined with the fact that they've added ASDW controls and almost top-down-shooter style of combat, made me think that we won't be able to have those insane fast teleporting builds... because it wouldn't be very practical with the new controls. The skills also seem to be slower, especially the melee, but this is kinda the same in PoE1 early on, when you don't have insane gear so probably doesn't mean much. Then i read the description of the Witchunter "Witchbane" passive and it made me think that it'll either be completely useless or the game WILL be slower paced. It speaks of lowering the cooldown reduction on mobs (so they'll actually be able to cast skills more than 1 in a fight?) and resetting the debuff if no damage is taken for 5 seconds... 5 seconds is eternity in end-game builds in PoE1. So yeah, either this particular skill (and maybe others, i haven't explored much yet). I also heard "souls-like" being thrown around in videos, also making me think the game MIGHT be slightly slower and focused than before, with actual positioning, dodging and blocking manually done rather than based entirely on rolls and stats. So, what do you think? Will PoE2 be a slightly slower, more tactical game or will it spiral into the Flicker Strike meta? Last bumped on Dec 6, 2024, 11:29:08 AM

Just like PoE 1, it'll certainly start out way slower. It's nigh impossible to recognise the original PoE beta in today's gameplay, even just the leveling progression is entirely different.
The slow and steady advancement towards a higher pace is part of the natural progression however: the game is getting frequent updates, and it's a lot more exciting to get slightly higher numbers as opposed to getting slightly lower numbers. Additionally, as complexity increases, there's more room for unexpected but extremely powerful combinations. In four years time, PoE 2 is likely to have picked up a decently higher pace than what it will have on the beta release. People are way more familiar with the game, there's slightly better leveling uniques, slightly more powerful Skills and Passives, just a smidge better Movespeed bonuses to find - all these slight boosts add up to a notably higher game pace. What the game ends up as, that's hard to tell. I wasn't expecting PoE1 to become an epileptic fit, but the addition of Multistrike truly changed the game. |

I'm kind of with you. Those that want to go zip zip through everything I applaud you because sometimes that's what I want. However, sometimes I just want to feel the murder I'm perpetrating and still be effective/efficient enough to make it viable. Am I going to clear a map in 3 min? Nope, am I going to enjoy smacking 200 individual faces? You betcha. I want to play both sometimes and it'd be nice if it was allowed and thought of in the patch meta.

Yeah, that's the main reason why I now prefer POE Ruthless mode, although I find it leans a tad too much on the "excessive" side, as far as loot scarcity goes.

i RLY hope its will be MUCH SLOWER.
The zooming gameplay from POE1, kinda killed the game for me. Frost Nova ..............
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!? |

From the looks of it it seems slower, and i love it!
I hope GGG keeps their vision and keeps it slower pace. Please don't increase the tempo of the game, we want more thought out combat than zooming through stuff without thinking.. I actually want to see what the monsters and myself are doing. They showcased some boots that had 35% movespeed. Why make boots that give more movespeed than poe1? I don't get it.. GGG clearly want a slower pace game, and they say they'll work on poe1 and poe2, then don't make poe2 another poe1.. |

Diablo has pushed that playstyle to the extreme lately, with eliminating identify scrolls and even actual looting. You just run a dungeon as fast as possible and you get all your loot at the end. In some open-world encounters you can literally just stand there and wait, then when the other players kill a boss you get the golden shower of loot and that's it. Amazing, engaging gameplay.
Not to turn this into a "bash Diablo" thread, since i still hold Diablo in my heart, but i do wish POE will learn from Diablo's mistakes and be better. I guess i am too old now, but i actually enjoy taking my time to go to town, identify my new things, ponder them a bit and then continue. And having to go back to sell multiple times in a run... |

yes because poe1 is unplayable because of the speed and currency per hour . fun is zero

My prediction is that the new boss mechanics won't allow for braindead builds. So the pace of the fight will force player skill regardless of build or damage.

" Why do you come on the forums and tell blatant lies. Boots on PoE 1 can have 35% ms. If you don't want the movespeed grab another affix. It wont affect you if my boots are faster than yours. The zoom zoom crying is invalid because you can move as slow as you want. I'm certain if you buy the div card creation item they will even allow you to make some -35% movespeed boots as a unique and they will be less than a chaos orb every league.
