Pausing controversy: Could adding TAGS for pauseless work?

Hey,

I have seen some heated discussions about pausing in the game. The main concern is that the bosses will be too easy if you are allowed to pause at any given time.

My solution to this would be just to add TAGS for the boss maps. If you have beaten it without pausing during the map even once, you will be given this nice looking TAG next (or around) this map.

What this will do is that players at high level will look cheap if they haven't completed the bosses without pausing. Basically this causes people wanting to complete all the maps without pauses if they want to be perfectionists.

Let me know what you think of this and if this system could be improved?

I think the pausing controversy is overblown, and adding "no pause" tags to anything in the game is not necessary. Boss mechanics are supposed to be readable now, and the pace of play manageable now, in such a way that the ability to simply pause a game and mouse over a few things to see what they are should not be unbalancing.

I also think that we should all just play the game for a bit first, and then decide if the ability to pause the game detracts from the experience in any way. We're not even in yet.

Definitely agreed. The beta is there precisely to show the game off and for players to provide feedback. Once the context is known and experienced we can make an informed opinion.

Also back when pausing was first mentioned the devs mentioned there won't be bosses cheesed by pausing a la Maven? Not sure if it's still relevant as it was quite some time ago but we'll see.

Too many negatives for me but I like what you described. If you just get a second to see a mod and its tell-tails then eventually you'll get used to spotting it without pausing, but if there's like huge ritual kind of mobs spawning all at once I want to just see what I am up against if I am playing at the max diffuculty for my char at that stage. There won't be lots auto pausing because of connection they will tune that that's for sure, and you can just not use it if you don't need it and have enough info at a glance and/or OP.
I like that you have these pretty calm opinions about it. Obviously I can see how small concern this is for the devs at the moment. There will be a huge amount of other issues they need to solve before even thinking about tweaking stuff like this.

This was just an idea I came up with after seeing multiple discussions about it and seeing that clearly some people were bothered about it. I still wanted to share this and see what kind of thoughts PoE community had about this.
I am a dad with 9 jobs, 4 wives and 8 kids.

I like pausing.
When you pause, it's not like you will be able to see the entire screen and mouse around.. Pausing means you have the menu or passive tree up ontop of the screen getting in the way.

I don't think pausing is going to turn out to be an advatage.

Remember that pausing is going to cost you 30-100ms, (1-4 game ticks) because the *server* pauses and it can't do that until it receives the pause request. So pausing is actually costing you time....

I think the main purpose of pausing is going to be..

...ohh no I might die....
...pause...
...hmm, am i really about to die?

... yes -> port
... no -> keep going

Is this an advantage? Sure, it helps people not waste time, and helps hardcore players stay alive more... Is it actually helpingn you beat the boss in ANY way? No.

At any rate.. any opinons about pausing right now are just pure speculation, so we should all just enjoy the game during early acess, and use the feedback forums only once we've played enough to feel INFORMED and make a fact based justification for an opinion.

My 2 cents: Pause CD could fix the cheese while let us still pause if RL happens
If I am playing single player and want to pause, tha's okay. Maybe I just need to pee real bad, or perhaps my doordash order just got dropped off. Who knows. Do I have to use it as a cheap work around for me screwing up? No. Should I get the choice of doing so? Yes. You don't have to use it, others can. It really doesn't affect you.

"oh no billy234154 is above me!" who fucking cares? That's the only reason you would use it in SC. If you're using it to cheat out of death in HC then why play HC? Lag deaths are the only ones that should be complained about if you're on HC.
Kind of pointless unless they are also SFF. Yea, I get it. Bragging rights and reputation are important, but it's pointless unless we can also stop 3rd party trade sites from rmt trading.
