POE 2 - Console Deal Breakers
First of all, I would like to start by saying that POE2 console experience, at least for now based on what was presented, seems to be much better than it was on POE1.
However, as a main PC player, most of my friends are mainly console players in which I would like to play together in cross-play, just like I'm able to do in other games. I would like to raise my concerns on 2 specific topics that may be Deal Breakers for console players after the honey moon phase of the game. 1) Performance issues: it is well known that POE1 performance on consoles, in specific from the server side, are pretty bad. It is very common to see rubberbanding, disconnects, bugs and many other issues that breaks the experience for those players. Hope that the experience on POE2 are better. 2) Trade System: this is the main reason why all of my friends that are fans of poe-like games do not engage with the content on consoles. There are no overlays for them to check prices on the go which is a HUGE and CORE component for POE (you don't make a fishing game without a fishing rod, right?). For sure the currency trade NPC was great, but without an actual auction house in-game (similar to the trade website or to what Last Epoch has implemented) it will be IMPOSSIBLE for the game to retain console players or even new casual PC players once the honey moon phase is over. The lack of in-game system that allow players to price check uniques, rare items and many other items on the go is a huge deal breaker for fans of the genre that may be willing to invest time and effort on POE2. In addition, POE Awakening and similar overlays are really popular and fan favorites tools from the community, and the main reason for that tool to exist and be popular is the lack of similar in-game features, which is a strong indicator that such a feature should be present in-game. Of course on PC you just download it and don't strees about it, but for new players the amount of tools and websites they must check before engaging with the game are also deal breakers. With that said, I would love to see the devs to implement some solution for those issues, not only to retain console players, which may increase the game popularity to the roof, but to also engage new players on PC to engage with the trading system without the need to check third party solutions. When you have a game with an economy based on the trading values of the items and a core part of the experience in order to farm and have consistent profit out of those farms, I feel like the need for such feature in-game is a MUST HAVE and not EXCLUSIVE to one plataform from third party solutions. This is a no brainer concern that should be priority during EA. If you have any additional concerns or deal breakers from the console point of view, please feel free to comment below. ps: Since the game launches on multiple plataforms and it is a healthy thing for the game, don't waste everyones time with stupid comments such as "JUST BUY A PC".
