Atlas Softlock? Question About the Atlas...
During the presentation, GGG said that, if you die in one of the nodes during the Atlas you can't run the node again, and if you want something behind it, you need to walk around... "If you die then the map can no longer be run and you'll have to find another way around to get the areas behind it." this means if we die too many times and lock too many nodes we can softlock ourselves? Like, Let's say our starting point has 4 ways to move and we die in each of the 4 nodes around us, are we stuck?
Something interesting that I didn't notice before is that, if you go back and rewatch the video, there's a textbox on the node saying: "Map failed. Ctrl-middle-click to complete even the sparse vegetation does not linger here long". What does this mean? Does this mean we can simply unlock the node by pressing Ctrl-middle-click and accessing what's behind it? I'm extremely confused about how this system works, those two statements completely contradict themselves. Last bumped on Nov 23, 2024, 10:30:58 PM

I was thinking the same thing, they said in video you have to find another way around it. Taking this as direct info says you have to do other maps to get around, but would still be able to block yourself in.
I just see how somone manage to die in the lets say 4 first maps that you can go to. Then there wont be any connection for you to play maps anymore. You litteraly get cut off from all endgame then. Same could happen later in the game with choke points alsow. I belive it would be better going 20,40,60% less quantity of loot, straigth to 50% less or other numbers here. Then it wont have the capability of blocking you from playing, this will happen to somone if it can with over 100k+ players. |

honestly i would expect there to be some sort of safety, like maybe making the maps around the starting zone not brick but only after 5 to 10 out before it starts bricking, that would allow players multiple avenues to go around

Even if they do that, players still will be able to lock themselves, it will just take more time to do so.

I'm sure if you start and die 4 times there will be a way to still do the Atlas. Then again maybe you would have to start a new character lol. I think if enough players complain they will change it some how. Like a tablet or gem. Which would tell you that you need to revisit your build and test it and the campaign beforehand. The only part of this that would irritate me is in the video of the untainted island. If you fail that I don't see a way to reach it. Which is cool and could be upsetting if it happens. On one side I would be like well I f'd that up let's go to the next one. And the other side would be this is irritating.

" Exactly. This can't possibly be the answer. I can't imagine a system where you get locked out of the atlas altogether just because you're being punished for wanting to keep attempting them when you can't get them right away. For several reasons, there has to be a way of attempting failed maps again. Perhaps by spending some kind of currency to do so, or something else. For me personally, I have a kind of completionist or OCD-like attitude that would make seeing a failed map on my atlas extremely annoying. It would be like a pebble in my shoe. If it were possible, even if a couple of failed maps didn't stop me from pursuing the atlas, I would still prefer to spend hours grinding for whatever it is that's required to attempt those maps again rather than "forget" about them and move on. I will simply never be able to forget about failed maps being present. To me, seeing a failed map on my atlas would be like seeing a dead pixel on my monitor … |

" Yup, I guess we will wait to see how it works. Going off what they said when you fail you can't do it will be interesting. Now you have that OCD feel to it sorry. I'm not like that with this game at least some things I am. Perhaps currency could work to reset a map or at least open up to trying again. Maybe just gold or an orb. But maybe like I said a tablet or gem. It will be something to look forward too. |
