Alright... seriously though... Why?
Why does my USERNAME, have numbers... It's a User Name, not a User Name&Numbers.

Because once a system grows large enough, unique names become an insufficient form of identifications on servers. Having a server flag each user with a unique number code in addition to a name means that names can be opened up. It's the first step in getting away from "That name is taken", and is a almost universally used system for any major game.
This is a growth PoE needs to do if they want to grow further (which with a new game coming out, they'd like that very much). While I don't hate the idea of them hiding the number on forums or in game chat, there'd be issues of impersonation they just might not want to deal with. |

Because when GGG added consoles to the game, the account name pools for each platform were separate, but now that there will be cross-platform play for PoE Too, those account name pools have been merged, and any potential duplicate instances of account names need to be differentiated. ='[.]'=

Shouldn't it be possible to only show the numbers when there are duplicates in the database? I refuse to believe that there are 3529 people named Phrazz.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

" All accounts got a random 4-digit number assigned to them. If there is a Phrazz#6578 who posts on the forums, I will think it will be you. Like I am going to remember who is who based on a number. Except for Jerle of course with his tapestry of supporter badges. Maybe they can give the account names with the oldest creation dates golden letters. Heart of Purity

path of exile must be close to being a perfect game when the best complainers can find to complain about is hashtags in usernames XD

Because when they made the console version, they didn't require players to sign up on the website and function within the already existing pools of names, so when the utterly misguided idea of crossplay came into being, they had to merge databases the had duplicate names.

To make it look cleaner/better i would remove the number from the name and instead make a new mini icon next to the user name with the full name+number but smaller.
This way the forum username looks better but we can still see if it's a different person in case names collide. Or maybe make the number only show up as hover text (that works in quotes as well). Masterpiece of 3.16 lore

It makes absolutely zero sense. Just like why PSN MTX won't transfer to pc like every other platform.
We all made dumb names to avoid have a duplicate name. Now we have dumb names with dumb #'s attached. tbh I'm a heady grinder. I played this game for a week and am pretty disappointed. |
