The humble way I'd love to see Settlers go core

can't fathom a scenario in which a league this well liked by all sorts of players doesn't end up core at some point. So with that said just my opinion but:

make the NPC's placeable in your HO. I'm not the first to suggest this by any means. Make the town objects placeable in HO...

change the lore to be more "gritty and dark" I don't know why our godslayer is subservient to some high fantasy king. Its fully out of place in POE and makes no sense at all. The lore could be changed to "low fantasy" smuggling, and racketeering. Which would have been a more fitting choice for the whole league IMO; but in any case is perfect to fit into something that happens in the players HO.

Balance the time/reward so that we don't feel obligated to always max our town. Otherwise this mechanic becomes obligatory every damn league.

Yes this means less rewarding than current (but thats kind of a given with past league mechanic integrations) I feel like presently the only people who do delve or Heist for example are people who enjoy it because those mechanics are somewhat sub-optimal and not at all obligatory. The town progression should aim for this as well IMO.

If we were to draw a parallel to leagues where you have to go somewhere and then GGG keeping it around. You have to look at something like heist.

And here's a brief rundown on heist:

•You have to go interact and upgrade everything at the location.
•You have to play actively in heist, you run contracts, you run blueprints for rewards.
•Mechanic is optional for specific rewards

And heres a brief rundown on the town:

•You have to upgrade everything at the location. But can contribute outside of it
•You play passively for the town, you gather in maps, you deposit gold and wait on shipping/mapping for rewards
•Mechanic is optional for extra and specific rewards

So as highlighted here there are a few problems and you mentioned it in your intial post. Rewards, and if you dont interact with it, you are just missing out. Its not like other mechanics in this regard though, as its passive rewards and not active. You dont have to devote a character to it (like heist or sanctum).

This is all to say, I would like to see it basekit in the game. But it does raise a lot of different bars (income, power, crafting..) in its current iteration. And bringing in quite a lot of powercreep.

It might just be too many systems that would need to be brought up(so the game is not even more trivialized) to cooperate with any future league mechanics, THAT ALSO introduces more things increasing our power.
Mash the clean
I had impression that Kingsmarch was.. planned from times of War of Atlas. Why we had interactive piles of gold which never dropped anything (e.g. in Vault). It took ten years for them to start drop gold, lol.

Lack of coins was explanable in acts. We live in wilderness, wherestamped coins are rare and various other items are used instead. Thereforewe had called them bubblegum - from bubblegum & stickers used as trade means by schoolkids.

Now we have some semblance of civiization growing. Fist thing a civilization creates is currency.

Heist is currency per hour sub-optimal? I really doubt it and delve is pretty rewarding too IF you are fast and deep enough. The big difference between heist/delve and settlers is that settlers isn't really a full game mechanic it's only side content.

Don't let your fomo kick in and all is good.
Often it's good to just play and enjoy the game rather than looking at what others with more playtime get vs you if you don't commit time into activity x.
Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.
This league should only go core if I don´t have to build every season a City Sim
to use it. Its just boring to build up the whole town every season and doesn´t fit this genre.
I dont think its going to go core. But it is going to be very sad to watch all the useless uniques lose all value when dust goes away.

I hope gold goes away, and faustus stays but with a different way to fund his use.

Generally speaking I only do what I find fun, no matter how much more optimal I could be.

But that doesn't mean I don't care about how the game and new mechanics that go core are balanced. Generally speaking the idea that everyone should just do what they like and stop caring about anything anyone else cares about is a bit of a cop out. Sure thats what everyone should do in an ideal world, but the game is always balanced around what can and can't be done, and to some degree what the most degen/sweaty/time wealthy players are yelling the most about is usually the squeaky wheel that gets greased.

There's a reason why Harvest is (for a player like myself) a sad, pathetic shell of a crafting system, that none the less is constantly abused by the most time wealthy, try hard and TFT discord meta gamers.

Things get ruined and become pathetic div card gambling fidget spinners when GGG implements things in a ham fisted way. They get the classic GGG triple tap a couple times and their use case skews to only the most sweaty.

Thats the motivation for my post, not FOMO.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. If you feel obligated to max your city every league then GGG didn't balance it correctly. (IMO)

I would argue that if the average player doesn't get a hint of FOMO by not engaging with the mechanic, then it is under-tuned. In an ideal balance, you should feel drawn to engage in more mechanics than you have time for, while still feeling rewarded by the ones you pick.

(think of the expression "no one leaves happy in a compromise")

Example, i dabble in heist every league despite the setup and major drawbacks and skip sanctum, but always feel a little left out of the raw currency drop jackpots)
