i think this isnt just saying trade sucks, ultimately it is saying that the game is too hard and then presuming the only solution is easier/cheaper trade.

Well there's more to it than that. I think I hit all the points in my earlier posts:
1) Unable to progress build due to skill
2) Unable to interact effectively with the market
3) Unable to craft basic gear

#1 (and #3) could certainly be "fixed" by playing SSF. But that is irrelevant....the OP never once said he was interested in that. Quite the opposite, he WANTS to interact with the market. So all these posts saying "Just play SSF" are deliberately ignoring the OPs wishes.

#2 requires the understanding that prices go up over time, items listed for a long time are likely not active trades, you need to SELL things in order to make currency to BUY more expensive things.

OP seems to want or expect things to drop perfectly for his build. And that is where it ends. It's either drop or buy, no in between. What he needs to learn is the "in between": cheap powerful crafting, selling items, buying cheaper items that can then be tweaked to be a heck of a lot stronger. He also seems to think that items are priced high because there is some "issue" with the market itself which is just a totally incorrect understanding of trade and prices.

But to continue to tell him "Play SSF"....you all KNOW that is being deliberately unhelpful to the OP.

I agree with u and I don't think "just play ssf" is the solution for his lack of trading experience, because obviously he won't get any in SSF either. But u also said that he lacks an understanding of how gear works and how to get cheap upgrades with crafting ect. The best way to value drops and "be forced to interact with crafting" is SSF. It's by no means the only way and u can do the same in trade league of course, but u always have the cop out of "I don't need to, I can just buy something if I grind enough currency"

That's why some people told him to play SSF. To force himself into a new perspective, where he doesn't have the easy way out and has to improve himself and his knowledge.

I like that idea much more than what others have adviced with collect rare sets and do chaos recipes. That's the most inefficient thing u can do, especially at this stage of the league.

Well ultimately like I said before, it probably doesn't matter. I don't think we'll have any impact on him anyway. He didn't ask for help in the Help section of the forum, he left Feedback for GGG, no matter how terrible it is.

/edit: As an example, when I wanted to learn about defenses in PoE, I started playing HC. I could have made a defensive build in SC aswell, but I always defaulted back to getting more damage and less defense in the end. In HC however, when my only life was on the line, I really started to value defense and I thoroughly researched alot to keep alive. Same thing happened when I wanted to learn crafting, well I started playing SSF. Now I can play trade league with an understanding of defenses and crafting and make great use of that.
Learning how to effectively trade is a skill on its own, but imo u need to learn the basics of the game first to make good use of trading aswell.

It is not being deliberately unhelpful. You cannot learn this game in sc trade properly. There is no incentive to learn anything outside of increasing your divines/hr. You can literally make a build with 3k ehp with 300m dps and farm mirrors with it.

And other guy, you're talking about ssf causing you to have to play the game for months. Isn't that the point of the game. In sctrade people will play 20 hrs a day for a week and complete all challenges and all their goals then come on the forums and say the game is boring.

My point is that if you think this entire game is based around trade then playing ssf will teach you how to farm your own stuff. Whenever you farm your own stuff you don't have to trade for them. Therefore trade issues gone.

Furthermore if trade is frustrating you this bad. Playing a game mode that completely deletes that from your experience could be the key to your happiness.

Yeah, and playing whatever build you want to farm hundreds of divines is what makes sc trade fun, there's a reason it's the biggest playerbase of the game compared to all the other modes.

And no, if I learn how to farm stuff myself I will, in fact, not farm it because it's easier and faster to just buy it for X divine orbs. Like why would I self-farm stuff like replica uniques or awakened gems, that could literally take an eternity and never happen. Why level an awakened gem to 5 manually when it requires an insane amount of exp and mapping when I can just go to bulk section and buy 4x Wild Brambleback to instantly make it lvl5? It makes no sense.

This game is balanced for sc trade, because it has so many oneshots and they expect you to trade your currency for the items that you need, this is why people on hc use a logout macro, because the game isn't designed for hc when you get oneshot in 0.001 seconds by something you can't see. We had way less quality of life for ssf a while ago, it's only recently that ssf is benefiting from all the qol stuff they added into the game.

And lastly, what if the person doesn't want to play a mode that adds arbitrary difficulty to the game for no reason? Then the problem still remains: trade sucks.

"Just play ssf" is putting a bandage on the problem, not solving it. And not every player will enjoy that, I'd say most sc trade people that play and quit after 1-2 weeks would hate playing even ssf softcore.

Actually its not a bandaid. Currency farming strats are bandaids to people that dont know how to craft or self farm.

The solution is becoming self reliant. There is nobody on this forum or at ggg that can force people to trade with you when you pm them. It is an open market thats just part of it.

I promise if you played ssf for a couple leagues then played sctrade the next league you would be a lot better off.

Trade seems to stress a lot of people out. Its not a problem ggg can fix either. The problem is literally people being obsessed with their d/hr. Or playing glass cannon builds that cant afford the portal or doing ridiculous juicing strats. Or heaven forbid, someone is afk (gasp). All of which aren't even related to trade, its a playerbase psychological problem.

The only way ggg could fix this is when someone pms you it pauses the game and allows you to trade with them. Imagine that happening while you're doing ball phase on uber exarch, or better yet, when you put something up for a bit too cheap for the live searchers and you get 19 pms and your game explodes trying to que up a bunch of trade windows. Or (i hope not) they make auction house and completely ruin trading.
the devs have said the majority of players never trade, and they dont make trade easier specifically because it will force the game to be imbalanced for people who dont trade, so the implication there is not that the game is balanced around trade.

most people dont trade, they know most people dont trade and they balance the game with that in mind.

ssf or not the guys problem is mainly that he doesnt know how to make an effective build without trading for items. i dont have any preference for where he learns that but thats what he needs to learn, ive played self found tons of times and ive never done in it an ssf league, i just do it in trade leagues but dont trade.

They will make an auction house, Faustus is the first step to that. And I can't wait, it can't come any sooner.
If SSF wasn't a mode for masochists, there'd be a lot more people playing it. Simple as that. The game was designed fundamentally with trading in mind, going so far as to make good quality gear (not even talking rare uniques) intentionally scarce to encourage trading. Considering you can get the absolute worst mods even on ilvl 83+ items, diluting the quality of loot to an absurd degree, trading is the only way to circumvent it without taking forever. People don't want to be limited to putting up with the game's BS using whatever garbage they pick up off the ground.

Also, this conversation is getting derailed. THe OP's concern is how difficult trading is in the game when you have to put up with the majority of traders who can't be bothered to respond to requests. Your SSF cope posts are irrelevant and if anything, it's just hand waving away valid criticism of the game.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish.

Exactly, simply picking up random trashy items off the ground and trying to put together a decent build would be pure pain in ssf. And yeah this went off-topic since the thread was about how bad the trading experience is, the OP didn't mention ssf at all. It's either people not responding at all, or inviting you to a party then making you wait in hideout till they finish their entire map lol
using gear you pickup on the ground isnt how you play ssf.

You can completely bypass the trading aspect outside of rare uniques if you know how to craft.

if you guys want a thread to complain about how bad trading is and not accept any solutions then idk what to tell you.

The solution to avoid trading is to learn how to craft your own gear. I promise if you pm someone selling mageblood at market value they will respond well. If you're pming someone for some garbage failed craft for 40c then you will have trouble. You're better off learning how to make that 40c item yourself.

Absolutely not this. This is a game centered largely around trading with people, and items are intentionally made difficult to get in order to encourage this. Don't shoot yourself in the foot.

You have never tried it, right? Try it for one league and you will see that all time you invest and waste in trading you will invest in playing game.
