Currency exchange has to go
core. The best thing to happen to Poe. Now we just need an auction house.

Nice clickbait title, my man/girl! :) If not for an auction house, then at least they should add the options to trade beasts and map items. To be fair, I'm personally still fine with trading gear through the website, I'm not sure it's possible/worth the time and resources to implement such detailed search interface in the game itself.

i think they should never have an AH for gear you wear, i dont think they should bring one in to poe2 either. but i was big in favour of them bringing in an AH for everything in the 'bulk item exchange' trade section, everything in there should be tradable through it.
ive not used it yet myself, not playing the league, ive heard very little bad about it tho so i guess its a thumbs up from the community? |

This was a great league Snorkle. The currency exchange seems pretty damn popular with everyone though ironically its barely used on HC lmao we still just trade the old fashioned way (as its what GGG always had in mind for trade I think)
but for SC not having to deal with thousands of fake listings and no answers all day has to be absolutely fucking great. |

The currency Exchange has a hard limit for trades, and requires you to play the game (gold). If an Item Exchange comes with these restrictions, I'll be OK with it.
But GGG have always talked about easier trading = less drop rates. And people are already talking about less divines dropping for the core drop pool. Any correlation? Who the hell knows. One thing is MORE than certain; the public trade API needs to go away for an in-game Item Exchange to really work. Hell, it already creates certain problems for the Currency Exchange. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

" How so? Sure there are discrepancies between the prices on the currency exchange vs buying via the trade site but does it really matter? If you want to buy from one to sell on the other you still need to farm the gold to do it. There have been times this league when I've needed to do big currency swaps and not had the gold for it, being able to do it the old way was far quicker than farming up the gold to do it via the exchange and I've also got better rates. I think both can coexist just fine. |

" I disagree. There are still so much shenanigans going on, with differences in bulk prices, price fixing and stuff that a "currency exchange" should remove (or so people kept telling me). As long as both exist, it will never go away. And not having the gold for huge currency exchange was more or less the point here; want to trade a lot, you have to pay for it. And restrictions to trade is needed, IMO. But we knew this would happen, and I've probably said so a million times: When instant trading comes, it WILL come with certain restrictions - and people WILL whine about those restrictions because they lack the understanding of why we need them. And better rates? That is also a negative. If you have to check several sources of prices to be "efficient", the whole point of an Exchange is more or less gone. Now, is the gold cost perfect? No. It seems like it doesn't take any ratios into account, and trading for a lot of chaos is more expensive than trading for fewer divines. It should (somehow) take the value of the trade into account, and not just the quantity of the trade. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you. Last edited by Phrazz#3529 on Sep 13, 2024, 8:07:51 AM

If the public API goes away an insane amount of useful features go away.
pob searching for timeless jewels/upgrades? Gone Awakened poe trade? Gone Wealthy Exile? Gone Poe.ninja prices? Gone Could also easily lead to fully bricking your character if you run out of gold while switching builds and end up with a half-finished char that can‘t farm maps to get gold and can‘t buy the last upgrades to be able to play the char and farm gold. Yeah, there are problems that come from the current two-tiered system, but it also affords a lot of flexibility. |

" I agree with you Phrazz, well mostly. In general the currency exchange and instant buyout was a MASSIVE success. There is no way we are going back now. As far as the tweaks go, I'm not worried. This entire system was a viability test, not to get gold values perfect. It will be tweaked. Nobody seriously thinks there shouldn't be any limits, because no one wants a bot flipping nightmare. This will get figured out. Where I do somewhat disagree is the impact that you're stating on the API based trade site. For one, the trade market, even when it includes items/gear (which is absolutely happening) doesn't account for some bulk trades. Also there is significant QoL in the trade site for equipment and searches that I be hesitant to lose for now. The shenanigans and price fixing is of little concern to me now, becaue on the trade market it simply does not matter. Even if there is a price difference, the availability is instant. You will immediately know, it's not even nuanced. It's also clear Mark had foresight on this showing the market rates over time so that insane outliers or mispricing unlikley to happen. A good guardrail so to speak, that essentially implements basic floor and ceilings on prices. I think its entirely possible for these two to co-exist for now. I'm fairly confident that as the trade market improves, it will naturally obsolete the trade site. Will this be a perfectly smooth transition? No. But we should never sacrifice the good in search of the perfect.
