Shipment lost after paying ransom

I just sent out a 50million value shippment, it got commandeered by pirates, and I payed the 50k gold ransom because I didn't want to risk a disconnet.

My ship is back in dock, without any reward and all my crops are gone.

I thought I was ment to keep the shipment if I payed off the pirates?

I did a relog to check if it was a visual bug, but it's still the same, ship is ready to be sent out.

No, Ransom lets you keep your workers for 50k gold and you lose your shipment. Sadly, you were supposed to risk the disconnect there.

Fair enough then, I didn't read the text properly, because it makes no sense to me that you'd lose your shipment. Pay 50k gold to keep the crew feels outrageously overpriced (which is why it wouldn't even occur to me that I'd lose the shipment in the first place).

Lesson learned I guess.
