Freeze at loading screen, new PC
Hi, I have a new gaming laptop, MSI Raider GE68 HX 14V, it has:
Windows 11 Geforece RTX 4070 laptop version i9 14900 32 GB RAM Can't get POE to run. It typically freezes on load screen, gears stop turning, music keeps playing. My desktop works fine, but have to travel a bit, so wanted to get this going on the new laptop as well. Would be great if anyone has any advice on why this would be happening on such a new gaming laptop. Last bumped on Aug 29, 2024, 2:33:31 PM

Have you tried installing an older Nvidia driver?
Try an April release 552.22 is a good start Also, make sure poe is running on your gpu for graphics in windows. Scroll down for Win11 option https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1044213/ Last edited by ps7ekken on Aug 29, 2024, 1:28:57 PM

Thanks, I had no idea that Windows would actually try to use the integrated graphics over high end GPU in any situation at all, much less on a graphics intensive application/game. Wow, learn something new today. I suspect that was my issue, but I also downloaded that previous Nvidia driver, and am reinstalling POE itself. Should probably have done these things 1 at a time to know which one fixes the issue, but I'll post again once solved.

" One of these things fixed the issue, thanks very much for your help. I suspect it was the fact that windows was set to automatically select the graphics processer rather than strict assignment to GPU. Anyhow, thanks again. Back to the grind..... | |
" You're welcome, glad one of them fixed it for you. As far as the Windows GPU adjustment.. it might show correctly in game, but obviously as you found out Windows for some reason doesn't set the right graphics processor to high performance. As for the 2nd part the Nvidia driver... a lot of newer versions have been reported to have buggy interactions with hardware. Usually there's not a need to update to the newest driver unless the newly released drivers have a specific fix in their notes that pertain to an issue a user is experiencing or there's new support for a newly released game. For future reference the newest Nvidia driver release info can be found on the Reddit Nvidia Mega Threads by driver version number. There is also the official Nvidia forum thread, but this is sometimes a little behind the Reddit one for comments. Just skim through the comments by early adopters and read the current known issues list. |
