Gold and resources disappear

I logged into the game and i lost like 200k gold in my town. Also. I had workers on the mining part because i needed verisium ore (not bars). I had 0 workers on the Smelting part so i can keep the ores to upgrade my town. Now, i have no gold, no verisium ore. What's happening?

Farmers will continue working as long as you have gold to supply them. As well as disenchanters, mappers, and shippers as long as they have work to do.

Miners continue working as long as there is any ore marked to be mined. If they run out of one ore to mine, they will move onto all the other marked ores until there is nothing left and then go to idle status.

Smelters do the same thing. So it is important you unassign ALL smelters from everything until you complete all the ore upgrades. Then you can assign them wherever and they'll catch up the backlog of raw ore.
