Character Customization - Elaborate
Would be nice to have a deeper Character Customization in PoE.
Even though that is mentioned in the Common Suggestions Thread, this thread is not a vague request, but an objective suggestion, with details on how to achieve the results. Since we already have Vanity Items in the store, it means GGG is appealing to our vanity, and as such, it makes sense to properly implement a full character customization feature. Ofcourse, what you can do would need to be restricted such that there are no implications regarding animations and hitbox, to make it truly about vanity, and not about gameplay advantage. Important Customization Tools in Order of Importance: #1 Male and Female for each Class #2 Hair Style #3 Hair Color #4 Skin Color #5 Personality (Left-handed, movement/combat animation sets, etc) #6 Body Shape #7 Face - we barely see it #8 Details (Eye color, different color per eye, Earrings, eyepatch, scars, etc) - even harder to see than the face How could GGG implement this in PoE? - Make a few hairs and faces available by default - Everything else - additional hairs, faces and cosmetic items - are only available in the Cash Store - You determine your character's appearance at Creation and it stays that way - Everytime you purchase an appearance changing cosmetic item, you gain the right to edit your character's appearance ONCE. - After purchasing a total of X costmetic items and/or appearances, you gain the right to edit your character's appearance INDEFINITELY, with a cooldown - somewhere between 1 and 24 hours. - Character Apperance Editing is done from the Login Screen. Dye System - Add a new currency to Path of Exile: Prismatic Orb - You use the Prismatic Orb prompts you to select an Item with 0 to 3 Gems - Items with 4, 5 or 6 gems are red/invalid. - Any Gems on that Item are destroyed, and their combination of colors determines the color according to the gems. Below is a sample of the Recipes: No Gem = Reset Color to Default 1x Str = Faded Red 2x Dex = Green 3x Int = Intense Blue 1x Str + 1x Dex = Yellow 1x Str + 1x Int = Purple 2x Str + 1x Int = Pink 1x Str + 2x Int = Violet Str+Dex+Int = Grey Str+Dex+Int on a Grey Item = Black Str+Dex+Int on a Black Item = White Prismatic Gem(such as Portal) = Special Effect specific to each Color (Red = blood, etc) Gear Appearance I made this suggestion in someone else's thread, but it's relevant to this topic, so I'll quote it here: " Forum Warrior - Why are you creating a thread about this subject? 100% agree
If this will be added to game I will spend a LOT of time in the game. And done right this will make it my favourite rosue-style action rpg. :) |

Fully agree with OP. Seriously, choosing gender micro-transactions should be in the next major content update in march.
Here are also a couple of suggestions in addition to the ones you made which you can add to your post if you like: 1- personality/with voice-over microtransaction: this modifies the personality of a class so that a templar for example becomes a Ebony legion mage, a ranger become a rogue, a marauder becomes a gladiator... These characters will have their own dialogue and voice that is different from the original vanilla version. They are still the same class though except in appearance and personality and voice. So a Gladiator would start in the same place as a Marauder for example. 2- pants for templar and witch. 3- hair-cut for shadow 4- posture for shadow! Seriously this guy's posture is so bad he needs a physical therapist. Last edited by mouhanad#7735 on Jan 21, 2014, 9:18:01 PM

A lot of what you're suggesting involves a TON of work from team members who are probably hammering away at Act 4 right now, and for the foreseeable future. However, I do agree that there should be gender customization. The easy way to do this would be to allow any character model to use any starting area on the tree, with the current ones as the default to make it clear that that's what they're "supposed" to be. It could be implemented as a microtransaction or simply become part of the character creation process, e.g. pick a class, pick a name, pick a starting area.
Honestly, I think it would also add a lot of nuance to the individual character narratives. Your mousey witch's lines are going to come off a lot differently if she's savaging zombies with a battleaxe instead of chucking spells at them. |
