patch notes filled with useless changes that make zero sense.

so many changes that make zero difference in a skill or build and some that dont make any sense at all, does anyone have a breakdown of the actual useful changes and not just the changes made to look like they did more than they actually did?

Well there IS a New League in thé patch notes, that seems relatively signifiant
What are you asking OP, most of them make sense and if you actually phrase it as a question rather than a generalisation i'll try and answer :p

Is the biggest buff melee has received in forever IMO and has only taken about 3 years of whinging about it to finally get it changed ^^

F i was using Flame dash of return for speedleveling on leaguestart, that dmg nerf ruins that strat damn.... guess those sly foxes at GGG found out my secret imba op strat

Nearly all melee gems lost their added xxx damage but get a little up to very huge better damage effectivity.

Did no calculations but with a good weapon and some added damage thise looks like a very big damage buff.

And you don't have to use your melee totems any longer and can use that time for an extra attack or skill.
Though thats a decoy less and a notable damage loss.

As usual we have to see the finaly result ...


Many other changes are little mana changes and some balance changes for lower levels.

Determination and Grace get a big nerf ... that's good.

Not going to lie, i'm not that smart, but that IS a change that requires telling you.

The damage effectiveness before was 270% at all gem levels
Now it scales up to 270% but starts lower (should also mean that added gem levels make the effectiveness higher still once past level 20)

Also i don't think there is a good way to display changes and it make sense for all players (WoW changes still look like ass and that's been going for a damn site longer than PoE)

Well you're not wrong. This is basically window dressing. They do this same crap for many years and when people like me call them out on it for noticing, we get bashed for it. I've been arguing about this shit with different changes like uniques and some gems like Elemental Hit for example. People are so quick to wanna call stuff a buff without fully utilizing something.

However, this current change of not just melee but skills in general is gonna be a nerf & slight improvement strictly depending on which skill you use and how your build is; but more importantly which weapons you use. I'll give you one instance of good and bad to see what I mean

Good - Cyclone change from flat dmg to increased added dmg effect. (True improvement would have been to keep the flat dmg, add what they did but also add flat elemental dmg OR outright have a new Cyclone gem that has it.)

Reason- This allows you to scale it well with other weapons which dont exactly blend well with it such as Starforge; *however in the same breath Voidforge will be a bit of an issue without having flat dmg to scale it on since it's already being scaled off effectiveness.

Bad - Elemental Hit change is primarily bad due to the change turning it into a melee only gem, which in turn makes 2x melee elemental gems with the exact same thing (Wild Strike).

Reason - The buff in dmg is moot for any wand or bow users that used Elemental Hit, cause now they're forced to use the Fig version aka Spectum which has ALOT less dmg. The buffed numbers SHOULD have been applied to the wand & bow version



Overall, like the nerfs; this was all a very lazy blanket change. They never take into account the non meta follower users. This is on par with many nerfs throughout the years, no other example could be more evident than when GGG nerfed ALL support gems a few years ago, making the highest awakened gems be equaled to the old level 20 non awakened versions.
