Lost all characters connecting my Steam Account to PoE Web Account

I have been playing PoE on steam and wanted to connect my steam account to the PoE website so that I can follow loot filters. Doing so via email confirmation has no wiped my characters from steam, but I can now see the loot filters I wanted to follow?
