Help with Stun and Cast When Stunned
Hello guys,
i was trying to test an old build of mine with a Cast When Stunned setup. I'm CI with a decent amount of armor for now aiming for 200k armor and 90% res. The problem here is that i don't get stunned, so my spell is never cast. What i knew was that stun was considered on the hit before mitigation (so armor and resistance didn't affect the stun chance). Infact years a go, very CI build was forced to use the Eye of Chayula to avoid getting stun locked and die. Now, even being CI, I'm experimenting the exact opposite: they never stun me. How can i get stunned? I'm not using "Soul of the Brine King" or onther stun avoidance apart from ES. This is my PoB if you are able to check on it! Thank you a lot! https://pobb.in/H_C80ypp9zj6 Last edited by Effe86#2062 on May 29, 2024, 4:11:01 AM Last bumped on Jun 3, 2024, 10:08:29 AM

As I see it, most cast when stunned builds these days are life based, using the Valyrium ring to "always" get stunned. The Bloodnotch jewel and the Immutable Force jewel are also a 'must'.
As an ES/CI build, I can't help you. I'm sure others can. Maybe I'm wrong here, but I seem to remember (at some point) stuns against CI were calculated based on the life you "have" before CI is being calculated. As you are strength stacking, you actually "have" a "decent" amount of life. Maybe this is just me wrambling... Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

" I checked it and yes, in the past stuns against CI were calculated based on the life you'd have had you not chosen CI. However, as far as I understand the wiki, if you get stunned depends on the damage taken. So with a lot of armour and high resists, you don't take enough damage to get stunned. Block is a different matter. If you prevent a lot of damage by blocking, you are briefly stunned. Dunno if it mechanically counts as a stun and triggers the cast, though. Edit: If you block a stunning hit, this also counts according to the wiki. ES automatically has 50% chance to not be stunned. This alone makes it completely undesirable to do Cast When Stunned and CI.
Additionally, stun chance is calculated AFTER armor reduces the damage. The only thing that ISN'T calculated for stun is block. Blocking a stunning hit still counts as a "stun" for the purposes of Cast When Stunned. However, you do NOT go through the stun animation and instead go through the block animation. CI builds only leverage cast when stunned if they're block based (cast when stunned triggers on block), and even then its only to automate utility skills rather than as a damage tool because there is no longer a reliable way for them to trigger it.
