im currently realmed on d2 and realllly want to try this game, says its free to download and play but wont let me.

Yes, it's free to play but it's also in Closed Beta phase and you must have a beta key to play it now. Open Beta will be in mid-August.

Patience is the key if you aren't willing to break out the cash! Look around for some key giveaway's around the forums though, sooner or later you will get in man!
