Energy Blade Question

Hello,
I'm currently playing Energy Blade build, and from my understanding Energy Blade only changes your weapon to Energy Blade dealing lightning damage, and that's it.

It's tags are Spell and Lightning.

I'm also using Lightning Strike, which is a Skill.

Energy Blade gets its damage from the Energy Shield, and I'm assuming every passive node that grants stuff to Spells, while Lightning Strike gets its damage from Skills.

How do I properly scale my damage? Do I invest only in Energy Shield and Spells, or also Skill passives?

Or I should just add some things that boost my weapon damage, and then focus on the Skill?

I'm playing SSF HC, but I'm not trying to min-max or make some uber build, I just wanna complete the campaign and atlas without the ubers.

Do I still need physical to lightning conversions? Or what if I choose a different Skill gem that has Fire damage, will that damage be lightning because the weapon only deals lightning damage?

Thanks for any info.

Energy blade is a spell, but this spell doesn't have any damage itself, it merely creates new items in your weapon slots. So energy blade gem won't benefit from any passives or support gems boosting skill damage or spell damage. You can still scale energy blade from its gem level (empower support works), gem quality, and from your maximum ES. Other than that, scale your main attack skill same way as you would have done with any other weapon.
Thank you.

If I invest points in spell damage leeches energy shield, will that work?
only if you use a spell to deal damage.

DO NOT think of energy blades as a damage gem, like fireball or cyclone.

think of it as an AURA gem, like anger. it gives you a BUFF. it doesnt do anything to the enemies.
