How to get more defenses? NECROMANCER

i've always liked PoE and i ALWAYS have trouble getting one shot.

watched some videos, learned a bunch, but i'm still having trouble

i'm playing Necro, started playing with raise zombies of falling, and i've been struggling in higher content by getting constantly killed in one hit

this is my current character
https://pobb.in/aTHzlXmqqXZN

i tried using SRS also, but it didn't help me

i was using Chaos Golem instead of Carrion Golem, but since i've been constantly one shot, i just decided to go full damage instead

Hi, so I am by no means an expert in POE, but pretty much flat defenses are done in this game as far as I can tell. As soon as you start doing much in maps, especially if you are doing the wildwood fiasco steroid pump, you gonna have to start off at the very least with some phys to ele conversion gear. I am playing a DD elementalist, but it is the same thing with nearly all the guides and classes and you will start seeing a difference when you use enough of it. Also, suppression, try to fit it in and work towards 100% if you can. The cheapest thing to do it is the dual exarch eater of worlds gear. So, like physical damage from hits taken as fire or whatever on your stuff.

I had to just grind essences on white maps mostly to get enough divines to get started, but fortunately, essences don't scale on map level or rarity, so if you buff those atlas nodes, you can make enough to start getting decked out. Toss it on everything, boots, gloves, w/e.

It's annoying, since it makes "balancing" for defense really pigeonholing, but I guess that is the flavor of the game. Even getting a pair of phys to ele gloves, I noticed a big difference in how hard I was getting hit.

Now, just running cookie cutter CI build, but may be different for Summon style necro at high level.

If summons drive you too crazy, swap to DD, necro does great at it and it scales off corpse hp, so it's a bit easier.

i've tried putting some suppression, but i don't know where to get more...
i can craft some, but i'll lose some chaos resistance

it is amazing how is easy to miss this kind of stuff. PoE is too diverse

i have a bunch of those "lesser" orbs that i never touched because i didn't actually looked into, and TOTALLY forgot about them..

Maybe i could try and get a lower tier phys to ele until i get a better orb.. or buy new gear

but at least i know what to look for regarding upgrades for my equipment!
thanks a lot!!

You bet, you can also pick up a darkness enthroned unique belt for pretty cheap if you are playing trade league, it's awesome for summoners because it holds 2 eye jewels and buffs their power by a lot. Since the eye jewels have such good focus on minions, you can get a lot more out of it than a lot of other builds.

got some supression, managed to get to 89% chance by having some in the Tree, and getting the "Chance to Suppress Spell Damage is lucky" mastery node

also got the Perfect Guardian Turtle spectre that casts Determination

my chaos res was pretty low, so i added a chaos flask so i could cap it

thank you for the tips, it helped a lot, i already fell a bit more tanky

about the belt you mentioned, i'm playing with
so i can use the 3 offerings...
maybe isn't worth using all 3?

So I can't speak to the belt question, as I haven't mained a minion build since heist, although it was my favorite, running golems. I just know that reading the current build guides, they are suggesting the darkness enthroned belt for most of them.

You'll want "physical damage from hits taken as xelemental damage". I made a mistake, as it is apparently something you can slap on a helmet for the eldritch enchantments. So, the gloves you got are better anyway although they aren't mitigating damage. I'm linking a helmet I was using as an example.

I have an extra darkness enthroned belt with 88% modifiers to abyss gems, it isn't BIS, since they can go up to 90+ but I'll just give it to you if you want to try it out, you slot 2 abyss gems into it. If you are running a build that depends on offerings, then it might not be the best, because it doesn't synergize with devouring diadem as well.

EDIT: I'm linking a build that was made by a prominent minion player, just in case it might be helpful, if I were running minions this league I would be using either this one or a poison SRS, I'm still considering a poison SRS this league anyway, just for lols. https://www.poe-vault.com/guides/zoomancer-necromancer-build-guide

why do you have glancing blows? it's ruining your build

and your chest is very bad, you need a better one with more es, and preferably a hybdrid base with armour/es or evasion/es+suppression

I don't understand the purpose of flesh and stone+arrogance and petrified blood in your build, blind is useless when you don't have any evasion, and you don't benefit from being low life in any way, just use determination or something. your final aura setup should look like determination + grace + pride + defiance banner, or skitterbots instead of one of the defensive auras, which isnt hard to do if you grab sovereignty and influence, then get 12% reservation on gear. this is much easier to do with diadem, so you probably wont need as much investment. your charms and jewels are also very bad

thanks for the link, i'll be using it as a base for what i already have

to be honest, this is the farthest i got to in all my time playing PoE, which it's not much... i've just been able to play more lately

this build that you linked doesn't go for suppression at all tho... maybe i can get some new equipment that has it

----------------EDIT:
i've changed my auras and my chestpiece, which opened up a space in my weapon so i can use Animate Guardian, which bumps up my damage by a lot

i was not using Animate Guardian because it kept dying, but now i've been able to can keep it alive

the guide that you've sent me, i've been using it as a base already, but i've been not following completly, because i was playing with Raise Zombie of Falling.
Since i don't have completely knowledge of the game, i was struggling a lot to find defences, since my build isn't exactly the same GhazzyTV's

i changed to SrS aswell.. Even Zizaran dropped Raise Zombie of Falling, which is a shame since it is a fun skill to play

i also added a charm that gives me and my minions onslaught

here is my current build:

Yeah, the suppression and phys to ele was from the build I have, it's mainly just a good general way to shrug off damage, especially suppression. You can get a watcher's eye too for under 1 div that will give you another 12ish% suppression while running grace. I'm kind of jealous, I want to run minions now.

i really like minions because it feels easy to scale damage
you just get anything that say "minion damage", some auras, and you are good to go!

i'm already feeling way tankier with all the tips in this post, and now i'm having a lot more fun playing minions

the only time i got one-shot was ""fighting"" against incarnation of Agony and the second phase from the King of the Mists

both of them just have mechanics that are not explained at all and i went blind in both of them
