Conflicting Definements
I am using items The Forth Vow(Body Armour) and Emperor's Vigilance(Shield). Body armour has a modifier which it says that ''Physical damage bypasses energy shield''. And to neutralize that i am using the shield which has a modifier that says ''Damage taken from blocked hits cannot bypass energy shield.'' But it didn't work and the blocked physical damages bypassed my energy shield. I tested aganist zombies. What does it make it so that the armour's modifier overrules the shields? Can anyone explain it to me please?

Unstoppable Force vs Immovable Object is what this is. It's like using Resolute Technique with Trypanon. They are exclusive to one another, and so you will want to use something Eldritch Battery to utilize the ES at all
The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

You should generally assume that if two mods directly contradict each other, the dominant one will be the one that makes the least beneficial outcome.

Generally, "cannot" takes precedence over "can".
Following a source linked on Emperor's Vigilance's wiki page: ES bypass is weird like that. Summary: Cannot wins, except that it's in the unintuitive form of "ES cannot intercept damage". Because it's not designed such that "bypassing ES is a default property of Chaos damage", but that "blocking Chaos damage is not a default property of ES". ...which is probably why we haven't seen any modifiers like "elemental damage dealt bypasses energy shield", because the bypassing is a property of the defense, not the damage being dealt. | |
But they do not quite contradict each other in the sense that the shield says that damage from unblocked hits will bypass ES. It just makes a new definement that the nature of the physical damage bypassing ES will be limited to unblocked hits along with other damage types... So it's like the shield doesn't completely object the armours modifier. It just restricts its definement to a degree at the cost of ''but if you can't block it, this time all damage will bypass ES.'' So i pay the price of restricting the modifier of Body Armour. It's not like i am saying: ''I have Resolute Tec. and Trypanon so i should be able to always hit and crit.'' The body armours and shields modifiers dont cancel each other out completely. They are not quite polar opposites. Not quite dark ot light. More like bit of a grey area... Is my thinking line really that unreasonable? Is there truly no tolerance to mechanism between these 2 items?
