Minimap resetting when re-entering the same (discovered) instance

My minimap is being reset whenever I re-enter an area previously discovered.
For example:
-porting to hideout in a map, and then back into the map
-entering vaal side areas and going back
-anything else with a the same pattern of porting back and forth between discovered areas

This randomly started happening this league 1-2 months ago, but I didn't care because I was gonna take a break.

I tried reinstalling the game and starting the game from both Steam and the standalone client. No success.

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

A fair few leagues ago, I also had this issue.
It was due to special characters in the documents directory for my last name.
GGG fixed this issue then.

Knowing this, my best guess is that PoE doesnt have permissions to write to the location, where minimap information is stored.

The "Minimap" folder inside "Documents\My Games\Path of Exile" is indeed never created. However, the "production_Config.ini" file (inside the same location) is created and written to as I change settings while in-game. I am running PoE with as administrator and the windows user has full control permissions over the "Path of Exile" folder (inside documents).

My windows user name has no special characters.

Hey, I had this exact issue a few leagues back and I'm having a hard time finding the support email, forum post, or discord friend message that fixed it for me.

You can try to rename a folder (so you don't delete the files) to let the game rebuild new ones to see if it helps.

File Explorer > %appdata% > Path of Exile

try renaming Minimap folder to Minimap-old

you can try deleting or backing up your production_Config.ini file.

Close PoE
Go to your Documents\My Games\Path of Exile folder
Rename production_Config.ini to production_Config.ini_BACKUP
Open PoE (all of your options/settings will be reset, e.g. sound, graphics, keybinds)


If I find what actually fixed it for me I'll update my post here.

Edit:
Make sure there are not any read/write restrictions where these folders are:
%appdata%/Path of Exile
Documents > My Games > Path of Exile

Edit2:
Windows Defender might be blocking access to PoE folders
Antivirus or Firewall > verify there is no block for anything poe related
Make sure OneDrive is not trying to sync the mini map folder and overwriting it
