Ashes of the Stars: Nerf or Buff?

Straight up removing a beneficial mod is text book nerf, but quality on skill gems is getting a massive buff. I'm curious how that will pan out. A skill like Ice Spear will get 60% crit multi for 30% additional quality, and that's just insane.

" But as he said you can more than double some of the crazy new quality effects. Like crackling lance would be 25% more damage with hits and ailments per intensity with ashes (10% more without ashes). Not sure if its an overall buff yet but its a good thought to have. The amulet itself has clearly been nerfed. Losing mana reservation efficiency is huge.
Doesn't mean it won't have a place ofc, it's still strong, but it will be difficult to fit in what people used to have due to the nerf. No tattoos to fix reservation either this coming league, so we'll see. Maybe Aul's will be more popular as a consequence of this. At least for people who relied on many heralds/auras and not so much on alt gems. |

While everyone gets the new gem quality, what the new gem quality now does is the actual buff to the amulet.

Its a nerf for MOST builds...but...
Some of the new gems, 30% increased quality will be MUCH better than mana reservation. Example: Siege Ballista dex stacking with Iron commander. the 30% qual from Ashes gives 7% attack speed PER totem. You can easily get 15 totems....thats 105% increased attack speed, that MORE than offsets a loss of mana reservation. There are several other new gems that 30% quality is OP for.
