WILDSTRIKE - how to scale it ?!
Hey
Wild strike, by default, alternates between fire, cold and lightning dmg. By using combat focus jewells, i can block 1-2 of those damage types. Example: i block off fire and cold, so i only deal lightning damage. But if i equip a weapon with flat lightning, cold and fire damage, will i then still benefit from the flat cold / fire dmg mods?, or are those becomming "wasted" mods?. Would it make more sense to go for a full phys weapon?, or just purely flat lightning on the weapon ? I hope somebody can clarify how the skill functions! Ty in advance :) Last bumped on Oct 18, 2023, 9:47:17 PM

Its honestly just a bad skill right now. Unless you are hard set on making it work I would look elsewhere for a skill to use.

" Wildstrike only converts physical damage to a random element. That has no effect on elemental flat damage on your weapon. As for the jewels, they have a 50 less damage modifier to the damage type the block so while flat damage of that type from your weapon or other sources will still apply, it will be minuscule. As for the comment above. Following "advice" like that might save you a failure or two but it will also mean that you are stuck as a guide following meta slave for the rest of your life. Trying out different things is the best way to learn how this game works. Following the hivemind won't teach you anything. Last edited by Baharoth15#0429 on Oct 10, 2023, 2:07:37 AM

in PoE terms its a bad skill without an extra scaling vector, it does however clear very nicely so doesn't need much help in that regard.
As a result of that you have to find a suitable crutch to make up for its vanilla stats. You can make a passable character like this that i'd be happy to play on SC, can't really make one i'd be happy with on HC though you'll just have to cut too much to make the dps viable unless you get out the really expensive toys. If i was doing Wildstrike right now it'd probably be a dex stacker, regular shaper claw or HOWA then you can get spell suppression for free and go from there pretty much. A million and one of these out there so very easy to find templates for too. |

I think Wilde Strike is probably my favorite skill in the game. It's fun as hell to play, but it sadly struggles hard with scaling. Isolating the elements through jewels makes it even harder to scale. Dex stacking, as mentioned above, would probably have the best potential. But you could just go the clear, easy rout and scale it via claws, Nighblade, elusive and crit.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

There is also the option of going voidforge with flat damage stacking either from helm/jewelry and/or abysjewels. Should be cheaper than dex stacking since only the voidforge is somewhat expensive and scales to the moon.

agreed Voidforge is definitely a good choice too, probably gets some great extra juice from tattoos also.
Kinda making me feel like I should make a voidforge character before tattoos go >< Why have you done this to me Saved... there is only one on HC and its probably SoL for the league :P |

You could play SC for a change. Greatly opens up build options.

I've been on the fence for the last few leagues already Baharoth the only reason I didn't do my occasional SC league this time is the league mechanic was perfect for HC.
Honestly if I run out of games I want to play though I might go do a quick SC run with 1 character, it isn't like it'll be hard to make currency with TOTA/Sanctum. |

" At what point did I tell him to play a meta build? Its a fair warning that this skill is not in the best spot right now. Glacial hammer is in a much better spot if he wants an elemental strike skill and is nowhere near meta. Yes trying out lots of builds is the way to learn in this game but wild strike is an objectively worse spot than probably every other melee strike elemental skill. |
