Mini map or map overlay keeps reseting when I portal out to hideout

I am not sure if this is a bug or just a setting I have in my setup. I have been running POE from steam for years but on this release my mini map or background overlay map resets anytime I portal out or go into the boss fight. When I return either way, my backgroud overlay is reset and I have no idea where I have been.

Is there a setting I need to do to get this right? It never did this in previous releases of POE.

Hey, I had this exact issue a few leagues back and I'm having a hard time finding the support email, forum post, or discord friend message that fixed it for me.

You can try to rename a folder (so you don't delete the files) to let the game rebuild new ones to see if it helps.

File Explorer > %appdata% > Path of Exile

try renaming Minimap folder to Minimap-old


If I find what actually fixed it for me I'll update my post here.

Make sure there are not any read/write restrictions where these folders are:
%appdata%/Path of Exile
Documents > My Games > Path of Exile

Windows Defender might be blocking access to PoE folders

well I tried all the options, it isn't working. Maybe I have to reinstall the game? This is a new install basically as I had to replace the original hard drive.
