Performance problems (shaders)
So my PC isn't the best, but before the patch prior 3.22 release it was handling things good enough. Now some things are not okay, specially shaders loading time. Upon entering a map, I stay in grace period for 50 seconds to wait them gone (thats just to see how long it lasts, I can run a map but it causes more lags than usual). More than that, if I leave the map and immediately return, shaders will start do something again for another 40+ seconds, even if I use all my portals like that and won't move a single unit:)
CPU: Intel Core i5-7400 CPU @ 3.00GHz 3.00 GHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030 RAM: 16 GB (2x8 GB) My game settings: DirectX11, VSync Off, Triple-Buffering enabled; Detail settings are all on lowest, Texture Filtering is 2x Anisotropic Filtering; Dynamic Culling and Dynamic Resolution are enabled with target framerate of 30, Engine Multithreading also enabled. Currently on Predictive mode but sometimes it was too bad and I switched to Lockstep. I tried switch to Vulcan, it didn't change anything about shaders loading time, about the same experience in the maps, but for some reason it made floor textures on the Trials arena soapy everytime round ended/chest opened/round started for a few seconds, so I switched back. Dx12 was pretty laggy for me before 3.22, so I haven't tried it yet. Tried to turn off Dynamic Culling, didn't really change anything, tried to switch Triple-Buffering to Double, does not affect the issue but might be better on predictive:) Screenshot with me staying at the map entrance (grace period almost gone): Screenshot after leaving map to store loot and returning (it actually finished 1 second after grace period is gone): Any "new" object I'll see on the map cause me to load shaders, even if for a shorter time. Its almost like they don't really saved anywhere, although I don't think it should be the case. Last bumped on Sep 6, 2023, 2:35:26 PM

Yup, welcome to the club. This has been an issue since the "engine update" before 3.22. Maybe half the posts on the forum are about this. Other than a single pinned note in "Known PC Issues", there has been 0 acknowledgment of this from GGG so far.

" What should they acknowledge if they already acknowledged it in the sticky thread "Known PC Issues"? - Should they every day reach out to you and tell you they know about it? They are working to get this fixed, they are patching things in to try to fix it litterly every hotfix - it gets better for some ppl - sadly many ppl have still the issues, thats terrible yeah - but they are on it. Don't get me wrong I'm on your side, this has to be fixed asap. But angryly post things that are not true won't help. I could tell you what did the trick to me (I already posted it in one thread) But I can't promise this will help you, since every PC spec is different. And if you don't know what you do, you shouldn't do it. (You should not tinker on your settings if the game ran fine before the patch) If you still want to try it: - Switch to DX12 - enable triple buffering - Update GPU driver - go to device manager and under sound disable the nvidia sound devices (disable NOT uninstall) - go into Nvidia controll settings and set the 3d settings and settings for apps (poe) back to standard - verify game date (repair) - delete the poe shaders (carful different locations depending if stand alone client or steam client // if you used both make sure to delete the right once or no effect takes place) - disable RAM and CPU overclocking & XML profil (could result in less performance in other games!) But after these changes (I made them on day 3 of the season) at least for me I have no more crashes, normal loading times and no performance issues. (still less then before the patch, but only FPS number wise - cant feel it at all) The only thing I still have are grafic bugs on the map "infested valley" and in the rogue harbor. Hope this helps - but be careful if you mess with your PC / I would only advice this if you are very despered to play PoE now and know what you do or at least be able to change everything back to how it was before - since you want to go back after GGG fixes their site anyways. |

" What I wrote was in no way meant to come off as "angry". At least it wasn't my intention. The "Known PC Issues" thread says "Investigating client performance reports", not specifically Shader problems. That's what I was referring to. I'm also aware of the shader cache fixes. I'm the author of one of them. Last edited by GregoryAdams#7051 on Sep 6, 2023, 8:02:11 AM

Hi Same here,
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4590 CPU @ 3.30GHz, 3301 Mhz, 4 Core(s) Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Vram 1Tb SSD Before 3.21 engine patch i could run all additional content del./abys etc. Not super juiced, my spec is only just on the rec. lvl, I understand that. Now I've had to disable all content other than heist Just about able to turn eldritch altars, alch + go only Hit any sort of pack fps dives to 30, sometimes 15. Starts glitching/stuttering etc. cant get images to upload so dx11 vsync locked TB enabled anti low tex qual low tex fil 4-anti dynamic cull disabled Tried 12 + vulcan, got worse, buy maybe I need to stay with them for hours since it appears to build another shader cache dir. How long would I need? Tied lowering my resolution, no difference. Got to say tried all the options in game. Nvidia CP is not optimizing the game. Nothing on my PC changed at the 3.21 engine patch Last edited by Spareback#5987 on Sep 6, 2023, 8:20:04 AM

" This would only relate to your connection and should never be taken off lock step. If you have problem that switching to predictive "fixes" well, it's not fixing it...it's hiding it and it can get worse to the point that you will see heavy rubber banding. Ancestral Bond. " Well I just followed Henry_GGG request from here and made this thread, maybe more pc specs will help them to figure something out:) " I mentioned everything I could remember, including network mode. Normally with good connection Predictive is still worth to run for me, as I don't see some game lags, and it does not oos my character, but after patch sometimes it does and then I turn it off. I never said it supposed to actually "fix" something, but before patch I've played entire 3.21 on Predictive and was that an amazing experience without noticeable lags and character desyncs. |
